Did the U.S. apologize for the Cairo embassy attack?
September 11, 2012
(CBS News) After a massive crowd of angry Egyptians began amassing outside the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, furious over an anti-Muslim film produced in the U.S., the embassy there released a statement saying it did not support any anti-religious efforts.
"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims - as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions," the statement began.
Conservatives have pounced on the statement, calling it an "apology," and the White House responded by saying it had not approved the statement before its release.
"The statement by Embassy Cairo was not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government," an administration official told Politico.
It appears the White House was attempting to get ahead of a Democrat, "apologize first" approach to foreign policy.

Analysis: Biden rekindles controversy over administration's Libya statements
October 12, 2012|Susan Cornwell | Reuters
WASHINGTON (Reuters)- The Obama administration's latest verbal bungle over the chain of events leading to the deadly attack in Benghazi, Libya, rekindled the controversy over the incident on Friday and offered new ammunition to Republican opponents.
In Thursday night's vice presidential debate, Vice President Joe Biden insisted that "we weren't told they wanted more security" at the ill-fated U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, where U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens died.
Biden's statement, at least on the surface, appeared to contradict congressional testimony less than 48 hours earlier from State Department officials, and offered a fresh opening for Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney, who has repeatedly sought to attack the White House over the issue.
It was the latest example of a White House, which has long prided itself on "message discipline," flubbing its own message on the Libya attacks. President Barack Obama and his aides have struggled to explain why they first described the violence as growing out of protests over an anti-Muslim movie, only later to acknowledge it was an organized attack by militants.
In a written commentary the day before Biden spoke, prominent national security analyst Anthony Cordesman said the administration had "fumbled the situation by going into a state of confused denial" about Libya. The administration should also have made a stronger case for establishing on-the-scene diplomacy in a volatile environment such as post-Gaddafi Libya, he wrote.
The White House was quick to defend Biden on Friday, saying he had been speaking only for himself and Obama - in other words, not for anyone else in the administration who might have heard about the dangers facing Americans in Libya's relatively lawless second city before Stevens and three other Americans were killed on the night of September 11.
So who's in charge over there? That 2 Am Call came and Obama didn't even answer the phone!

Amazing how a so called president could somehow FORGET About the Sept 11th Attacks and allow More American Murders to happen. Was Obama taping David Letterman or the View? That's Incompetence worthy of Impeachment.
I'd like you to tell the families of the slain Americans how Obama thought TV shows and Fundraisers were More Important than their Loved Ones.
I'd like you to explain why leftwingers cannot take responsibility for their actions leading to these Murders.

The Mystery of Obama's Benghazi
By ROSS DOUTHAT
October 13, 2012
TWENTY-FOUR hours after the American compound in Benghazi was attacked and our ambassador murdered, the tragedy seemed more likely to help President Obama’s re-election campaign than to damage it.
What happened instead was very strange. Having first repudiated the embassy’s apology to Muslims offended by a movie impugning their prophet, the Obama administration decided to embrace that apology’s premise, and insist that the movie was the crucial ingredient in the Sept. 11 anniversary violence.
For days after the attack, as it became clearer that the Benghazi violence was a Qaeda operation rather than a protest, White House officials continued to stress the importance of the “hateful” and “disgusting” video, and its supposed role as a catalyst for what Susan Rice, the ambassador to the United Nations, insisted was a spontaneous attack.
This narrative was pushed on Sunday morning programs, on late-night talk shows and at news conferences, by everyone from Rice to Hillary Clinton to the president himself. When Obama spoke at the United Nations shortly after the attacks, the video was referenced six times in the text; Al Qaeda was referenced only once.
Eventually, the White House let the video slip quietly out of its public rhetoric, and refocused on terrorism instead. But everything else that’s come out about Benghazi has seemed much more damning because the administration practiced a strange denial at the outset. The missed warnings, the weaknesses in security, the drip-drip of detail unspigoted by reporting and Congressional hearings — all of it would have been received differently if the White House hadn’t spent a week acting as if it had something big to lose by calling terrorism terrorism.
What explains this self-defeating strategy?
One possibility is that Romney’s oft-repeated “apology tour” charge is right, and this White House can’t resist the urge to appease our enemies when America comes under attack.
Another possibility is that precisely because this White House wants to be seen as tough on terrorism, it’s loath to acknowledge the possibility that it doesn’t have Al Qaeda completely on the run after they brazenly murder the US Ambassador and other US Diplomats.
But even this seems insufficient to explain the White House’s Benghazi blundering.

Obama = OUT OF TOUCH PRESIDENT
Obama = UNINFORMED PRESIDENT
Obama = doesn't know what's happening in HIS OWN ADMINISTRATION
Obama = spends more time on golf course, on tv shows instead of being a WORKING PRESIDENT!
Obama's economy is faltering
Obama's Foreign policy is failed
Obama's INability to Unite country is failed
Obama's Education policy failed as demonstrated in his own hometown of Chicago!
We can't afford 4 more years of Obama
We need Mitt Romney a skilled businessman who is ABLE to turn failures into successes
We need Mitt Romney who will compromise and unite America. We can't be at each other's throats and be successful.
We need Mitt Romney who can turn around the automotive industry. Cars are IN his blood.
We need Mitt Romney, a confident, intelligent, family loving man.
MITT ROMNEY = PROVEN LEADER

If he needs to save his Presidency by giving her this administrative failure, he may do it.
The Butcher of Benghazi is not a person I will vote for.
