Humane Society Welcomes Michael Vick As Needed Partner

There are 28 comments on the snellvillega.ourtown.com story from May 21, 2009, titled Humane Society Welcomes Michael Vick As Needed Partner. In it, snellvillega.ourtown.com reports that:

by Tom Livsey,

Wayne Pacelle doesnt mind a good fight. He's used to them. The Humane Society said they would work with Vick to eradicate dogfighting among youths.

Through Michael Vick, the Humane Society realizes that the organization can nip increasing urban dogfighting popularity in the bud.

Vick can help reach the nation's youth, while generating funds desperately needed by the animal organization. The wrong has been done, and he realizes it. Now, we all need to allow him to right his wrong.

I am optimistic for Vick not only as a man and football player, but for the work he will do to eradicate dogfighting. I think the human society guy has a good attitude. Instead of being mad and irrational, he is going to turn a negative into a positive.

If he hadn't been caught, he would STILL be doing it! He isn't sorry and he hasn't seen the light... he got caught and is doing something that's court-ordered to TRY and get back in the NFL's good graces.

petition overview | letter
Ban Michael Vick from the NFL-Permanently
Target:Roger Goodell, NFL Commissioner
Sponsored by: Caroline Bishop
Michael Vick has openly admitted to the fighting, torture, and murder of many pitbulls on his land in Virginia. These dogs were not only fought but murdered in some of the most brutal ways-beating, drowning, hanging, and even electrocution. For the horrible crimes that Michael Vick has committed, he was sentenced to a mere 23 months in prison, and now his lawyers are announcing that he should be out of prison and in a halfway house any day now. This petition is to encourage the NFL to not reinstate Michael Vick into the NFL EVER! Professional Athletes are Role Models to our Nations youth, whether they want to be or not. Young children look up to them and emulate them. Michael Vick should never be allowed to play professional football again. Same here. Although I know that they need help, I cannot donate money to any organization which is associated with this brutal dog killer.

He only wants to play football. He couldn't care less about dogs. Love for animals is something you learn as a child and Vick didn't. Its only been a few months since he was gleefully profiting from feeding stolen housepets to pit bulls - and then killing the pit bulls in brutal and horrific ways.

I can not beleave someone who would fight dogs,Has very much compassion for animals.I know folks can change sometimes. The activities he was involved in is very telling.I wish him well,And I do hope he plays ball again.I do not think he should plan on having any more dogs,It might be tempting to get back in his old activities again.I do not think he should be allowed to have pets.Untill he has gone through therapy. And then he would need to be checked on.I am a big animal lover,My dog is spoiled rotten,So it turns my stomach to think about what those dogs went through.Michael just needs to play ball and stay away from dogs.

It is totally insane,Why would any orginazation.Want their name mentioned,Along with someone who is just now getting out of jail. for dog fighting .Vick needs a lot of therapy.Having him work with a group connected to dogs.Makes no sence at all.Thats like putting a pedifile teaching, or working ,with children. He has allready abused enough dogs.Lets not give him a chance to abuse more.If he wants to play ball that would be o.k.

He is conning HSUS and the public. Dmx already did this little PR crap to get out of trouble. They busted him the last time and found burned dogs, starving dogs with no water, all stuck in cages in the Arizona desert. I wish Sheriff Joe had shot him.

Did you read that ridiculous article in the Journal by Ted Anderson calling Vick a "victim"? People like Anderson dont belong in decent society, if not for moral reasons then because they aren't smart enough to be trusted with a fork.

The details that got to me then and stay with me today involve the swimming pool that was used to kill some of the dogs. Jumper cables were clipped onto the ears of underperforming dogs, then, just like with a car, the cables were connected to the terminals of car batteries before lifting and tossing the shamed dogs into the water. Most of Vick's dogs were small - 40lbs or so - so tossing them in would've been fast and easy work for thick athlete arms. We don't know how many suffered this premeditated murder, but the damage to the pool walls tells a story. It seems that while they were scrambling to escape, they scratched and clawed at the pool liner and bit at the dented aluminum sides like a hungry dog on a tin can.

I wear some pretty thick skin during our work with dogs, but I can't shake my minds-eye image of a little black dog splashing frantically in bloody water ... screaming in pain and terror ... brown eyes saucer wide and tiny black white-toed feet clawing at anything, desperate to get ahold. This death did not come quickly. The rescuer in me keeps trying to think of a way to go back in time and somehow stop this torture and pull the little dog to safety. I think I'll be looking for ways to pull that dog out for the rest of my life.

So that's where I'm at. A second chance for Vick?
An HSUS sponsored spokesman for ending torture? In my mind's eye Vick is still in the shadows at the side of that pool. As many times as this scene plays out my head, he hasn't yet moved towards that dog to pull him out. Not there yet.

I think someone posted it on his forum which is a war zone right now. Amazing what people will say to excuse a football player.

Humane Society and Michael Vick what an oxymoron.
I saw the interview on 60 minutes., can't believe "Vick's handlers" are dictating to the Human society how and when he will make secret appearances in the hood to talk about how wrong dog-fighting is. It is a PR stunt and the Human Society should be ashamed to have their name associated with this thug.
