I agree. They both are. It's common sense.

Any type of discrimination towards gender identity/expression and sexual orientation should always ALSO be considered sex/gender discrimination in most cases.

In the U.S., you can:

1. Get married when your 13.

2. Get a driver's license at 16.

3. Go into the military and kill people at 17.

4. Vote in elections at 18.

5. Buy alcohol at 21.

I think the STATES and the federal government, should all agree to set ONE age for all these things, and that age should be 18 years old. FOR EVERYTHING.

Age of consent also varies from state to state. The laws used to differentiate on the sexual orientation/gender combinations of the parties and still do sort of in some states.

I know, but it's nonsensical. Since you are an "adult at 18 years of age", why not make ALL those things I mentioned begin at age 18 ?

btw, the marriage age is sometimes different for males and females in the same state.

I just looked up minimum marriage ages, and in New Hampshire, the minimum marriage age is 13 for a female, and 14 for a male.

But only if you're marrying someone of your opposite sex, if you're marrying within your own, you both have to be at least 18.

I wasn't aware of that. That probably won't stand up in court if someone challenges it. But I don't think ANYBODY should get married before their 18 years old, even though it's allowed.

Fred I hate to disagree with you of all people, But... In NJ, I think you had to be 16 to get married. NJ's DL is 17. Going in the military at 17 means you're getting men at their fittest and stupidest. The testosterone is really flowing. Older, and they've already started downhill, And they're getting smarter and starting families. Not good from a military standpoint.
Nixon Changed the voting age to 18 from 21 using that same flawed logic. If anything, he should have raised it to 25. The worst presidents in this country's history have been elected by the youth vote. Young people are so easy to influence.
It's easy to see the inconsistancy of different ages of maturity for different functions, but if isn't going to correct anything by making them consistant, all you get is more chaos.
