Oh, Oh. What will this do to homeowners insurance?
Just raising it again, as after you complete this upgrade, the insurance company will send you a letter stating that since your home has now a higher value, the premium will go up.

Solution is simple, just have us come out and we will replace your old blue tarp roof every year with a brand new blue tarp roof, no permits, no hassle and best of all Cheap!!! Oh, and for a nominal fee, we can match the color of our tarp to your house, we now offer, barrel tile orange, asphalt gray, concrete white, or be the first in your hood with our most popular color, "ghetto purple".

I had a so-called illegal roof put on 15 years ago by a crew from a commercial contractor doing "freelance" work on weekends.(My old roof was so bad, the sound of water dripping into spaghetti pots sounded like a symphony.)
Their price was less than half of bids coming in from others. They showed up on time with quality materials and did a bang-up job.
And guess what? I've survived through all the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005, plus other storms without so much as single leak.
I'm thrilled with the money I saved, and figure this roof will last as long as I do.
It's getting harder and harder to skirt the bureaucracy, but if you can ... then do it.
GOOD FOR YOU!, YOU HAD REAL TRADESMEN DO THE JOB AT A FAIR PRICE..THE WAY IT SHOULD BE..THE STATE TEST KEEPS A LOT OF GOOD MEN FROM HAVING THEIR OWN BUSINESS!

I don't know if having a reinforced roof will help with insurance premiums or not. What will happen, though, is that this new law will require replaced roofs to be to a certain code.
If that roof was damaged by wind/lightning/fire, the insurance should pay for it. There's an endorsement called "Ordinance or Law" and every policy carries it. It basically helps pay for code enforcement. So say the roof replacement costs $10,000.00. Minus a hurricane deductible brings payment to the customer of $8,000.00. If the code increase adds another $1,500.00 then the roofer would have to provide that code to the insurance adjuster, the roof would have to be completed, and the difference billed to the insurance company who then reimburses the customer.
As far as having concrete roofs put on all homes, the weight of a concrete roof could cause walls to crack, buckle, or collapse since a home with a shingle roof was constructed to only hold the weight of a shingle roof, not concrete or tile.
Reinforced trusses could have a lowering of premiums. There are a few metrics. Look here -->
http://www.dca.state.fl.us/fdem/mitdb/index.c...
Also, I don't think the poster refering to the concrete roof was talking about retrofiting. Concrete roofs also need waterproofing and are susceptable to failure in windstorm conditions.

This is another remarkable and yet typical of how our state government is addressing the massive foreclosure and eroding housing market.

With the massive cost of ludicrous property taxes and hurricane insurance coverage prices, this is another brain-storming idea to close the gap even further.

Florida's market is DOOMED. Now real estate agent crooks have to get real jobs - poetic justice.

I did my own shingle roof in deefield, It cost a fraction of the price and was not that hard, like a jigsaw puzzle. But the inspectors were impossible to deal with. They almost seemed like they did not believe I was doing it myself and maybe wanted a kickback. I payed my taxes you F'ers at deerfield.

You know what? I have had it with all this crap. The unbelievable high prices are getting worse and worse. The wages are not going up. South Florida is totally upside down financially. The only people who find this area not so expensive are those moving from Boston or California.

Where does any one see insurance savings? I moved into my new home in 3/07 and my home owners was $1100. this year with all the up to codes construction that my house had, went up to $1600. that is about a 50% increase. All's this will do is cause more hardship.
Get rid of this now before you drive everyone into bankruptcy.
