my only question regarding moving to Delaware is, what are the prices like at Food Lion? i'm looking at the Fenwick Island area to live, and i know there is a Food Lion there, just have never been in there.57857
I shop at Food Lion all the time. Not just because their prices are lower, it's employee owned, so everyone is pleasant and helpful, the aisles are wide, clean and well lighted. Meat dept is good. Produce fresh and clean. You can compare prices with other grocery stores, and Food Lion's are better. Some things are lower at Walmart, but all in all, Food Lion is good. Safeway is very high. Acem, I find cluttered, dark and narrow aisle. Depressing.
Food Lion is putting up new stores everywhere, so they must be doing something right.

But honestly, as across the whole country, food prices are rising and probably will continue.

thanks for replying....glad to hear prices are good there at Food Lion. i know when i lived in PA, Acme was too high, and their meat selection wasn't the greatest, and far over-priced.we had a superfresh where i lived, but they shut that down. the only other grocery stores in the area were either Aldi's or Giant, and Giant is really expensive. i worked there at one time, and i never shopped there unless i had to. even with working there, you'd think we'd get a break on groceries...no such luck!. i'd go to Aldi's, or i'd drive down toward Reading, PA, and go to Bottom Dollar Foods. or, i'd drive down to Collegeville and go to Wegman's, which was reasonable. they'd send you these little coupon books in the mail. when you spent 20 dollars, you'd get 2 items for free. plus, they had all kinds of little spots to eat at, and they had a beer and wine area, with a decent selection. and, Wegman's also has a nice deli area, and a nicer bakery than Giant. and, the selection in the Deli and Bakery areas of Wegman's was really nice, too....all kinds of breads that Giant wouldn't even think of carrying. i'll have to check out Food Lion once i get to Delaware again. we're looking at mid-spring of next year, as i'm on a contract with my job, and where i live, the lease isn't up until March 1st, so i can't go anywhere until then. i really love Delaware as a whole. to me, the people are friendly, the shopping is great, plus.....Fractured Prune donuts!! oh, man, i miss their donuts!!! and, i love the beaches. also, when you're a first time home buyer, the state gives you a rebate as a thank you for buying a home in the state. i found this out through a realtor friend of mine in Lewes.

i'd rather live in Delaware than PA any day. i lived in philadelphia for a while, was not a great experience. Delaware has more to offer than PA does. when you're a first time home buyer, Delaware gives you a rebate, as a way of saying thank you for buying a home in Delaware. also, no state sales tax in Delaware, so shopping is less costly. right now, i live in North Dakota, and i'm looking at moving to Delaware some time next year. i love Delaware, so much to see and do, and most areas of that state that i've been to, there have been very friendly people. i can't wait to live in Delaware!
Hey Brad

I'm also from ND. I lived here all my life and can't wait for the change. I bought a house in Dover about a year ago. I just sold my business and will be moving in about 6 months (have to train the new owners). The life style change will be awesome, there will be so many things to do and places to see within just a couple of hours. As you know, a couple of hours in North Dakota, your still nowhere. Well anyway, can't wait.

Why didn't anyone respond to Lynda about the cancer cluster? I'd like some information about that?

Moved to DE from MD 6 months ago. Not a lot of shopping options, but it beats the MD taxes and politics.

Considering the same. Born and raised in MD, but the taxes are eating us alive. Considering retiring in DE.

I am looking to relocate to the state of Delaware due to a my employer (promotion) located in Western PA. I am looking in the Milton area at this time. Are there any other cities anyone suggests looking at? I am trying to keep within the Seaford / Milford/ Georgetown area just because of my travel for my employment. I need to be close to the center of the state for traveling purposes. Any real estate agents anyones suggest?
Thanks for the help
I live in Sussex County Delaware and can not wait to get out. If you insist on moving here, do NOT live in Seaford or Georgetown. They are not good areas and have some of the worst schools in the state. Milford is much better.

OK, I'm going to re-ask my earlier question since no one has ventured any response. Would you rate Wilmington as reasonably urban, sophisticated and socially liberal, or as provincial, conservative, and small towney? Given that Philly is so close, does that make a difference in the calculations?
I live in Delaware and hate it. Working with the department of public health here, I can tell you that Wilmington, DE has one of the highest murder rates per capita and around the 7th highest rate of HIV infections. That is in part due to the drug users there...so you decide...

Can you give me an idea of how long it might take to get to 5 Radnor Corporate Center in Radnor to places like Hockessin or Greenville DE? In rush hour?
Brad wrote:
Delaware is nice, everything is close by, you don't have to drive forever to get to anything. when i lived in pottstown, pa, i could get from where i lived, to Wilmington in less than an hour.(45-50 minutes). with heavy traffic, it became an hour to an hour and 15 minutes. but, most of the time, traffic wasn't that bad getting there. West Chester was a little nuts with the construction, but once you got past there, it was pretty smooth sailing.
