"Aspirants to a career carrying a TSA badge only need have a GED certificate, pass a drug test and be current on child-support payments. After just 56 hours in the classroom, new “officers” head to the terminal for some “hands-on” experience. Once they’re inducted into their lifetime government gig, their annual salary can run as high as $47,548 a year, according to TSA job postings for the Washington area. As a sign of the high-caliber individuals the agency seeks, TSA bought advertisements on the top of pizza delivery boxes promising “X-ray vision and federal benefits” for TSOs."

This is the time of year many of us fly home for Christmas, this story reminded me why I seldom fly locally anymore preferring to drive if possible. Flying used to be fun, people were nice, it was relaxing and easy to do. Now, it's just one hassel after the other. Stand there, line up here, have multiple forms of ID, can't pack the whole bottle of shampoo, too large, and so on and so on. I wonder how much this waste of time TSA procedure has cost the airlines. Strip searching little kids and old ladies in wheelchairs while studiously avoiding the man in the turban and long beard with the crazy eyes who is praying aloud to Allah, will not catch someone intent on bringing down the plane. We need to do what they do in Israel, screen the people by how they act, not every 5th person. So far all the annoyance and taking off of shoes has not caught ONE person.
;) Me!
TSA is a joke. I watch them checking people and all I can do is shake my head. Most of it is feel good stuff, and then conducted in an unprofessional way. I know we need some form of security, but TSA in it's current form isn't it. I still fly places, but only because I have an ID clearance that lets me by-pass that whole mess.:)

@JUSTPINKANDGREEN,"So far all the annoyance and taking off of shoes has not caught ONE person." But, since the Obama Administration has been elected the number of successful terrorist attacks on American soil has dropped to zero. Most likely because Obama's stress on supporting local law enforcement and the FBI (the traditional organizations that are responsible for our domestic security)has worked perfectly rather than relying on the CIA , military adventurism abroad ,and illegal torture (like under Bush/Cheney)which have failed. Thank you President Obama for standing strong against neoconservative criticism and doing what few Presidents have been able to do in ending war and bringing our troops home.

Obama is picking up where Bush left off and has had a seamless run on a good security record so far, excluding the war going on down on the southern border that is being ignored, and the security breach he enabled with Fast and Furious. Sure he is going to try and protect us, it's his job. He hasn't done anything earth shattering, but has at least kept pressure on the terrorists which is fine.
By the way, there is no such thing as illegal torture as far as I'm concerned, these people slammed airplanes into our buildings killing thousands, I personally don't care, nor want to hear how they get the information from them, just get it.
The world apology tour was an embarrassment, and we will wait and see if the time was right to pull troops, I think it is a little pre-mature, but we will see.

@exitde,"By the way, there is no such thing as illegal torture as far as I'm concerned, " For you there might not be 'no such thing ' as illegal torture, because you don't fight in our military or hold an official Justice Department job; Our government and military officials have sworn to uphold the US military code of justice and FBI interrogation techniques which hold torture to be illegal , immoral , and counter-productive to attaining any information of value in combating terrorism and keeping our troops and citizens safe. The use of torture in interrogation of detainees actually puts our troops at a disadvantage and threatens their safety.

"Obama is picking up where Bush left off " Bush/Cheney had seven years to end an unnecessary war and get our troops out and failed. Just like VP Biden predicted , the 'surge' was a pyrrhic , short-term 'victory, a mere pause to the hostilities and no workable policy for lasting peace. Only US timely withdrawal could accomplish any possibility for a stable peace and President Obama gets the praise for doing that.

Bush allowed the waterboarding people, if it worked fine, I have no problem with it. And again, I could care less what we do to enemies killing innocent Americans, they are the enemy and don't deserve krimpets and coffee to discuss any information they might be willing to share.

exitde, "He hasn't done anything earth shattering," You remind me of the old anti-war slogan from the 1960's hippie movement. What if they started a war and no one went? Today ,it must be,'what if they ended war and no one cared?' Ending the Iraq War and bringing our boys home will be one of young President Obama's most remembered triumphs of his Administration.(It was one of his first campaign promised too!)
