"Last year, during construction at the plaza, state officials themselves warned drivers to avoid passing through during peak hours on Thanksgiving weekend.
But since the opening of four high-speed E-ZPass lanes in July, it's hard to find these horror stories. Instead, travelers have found themselves praising the much-maligned Delaware Turnpike."

This is great to hear, but what about the roads around Christiana Mall? I haven'at been down there for months and it was a mess then. Anyone have any information? Last year we got caught in a parking lot type of traffic and it took us almost 1/2 an hour to just get to the parking lot of the mall!

I take I-95 South but from here it's easier to go down Rt. 1 (PA) to the bridge in MD and catch I-95 there.

The roads around the Christiana Mall are worse than ever. Even though it would be easier for me to get to/from work using I95, I use all kinds of alternatives to avoid the I-95/Churchman's Rd/Route 7/Route 1 exits. This could have all been avoided years ago when the Route 7 overpass was built but highway plans were scaled back to save money. As for Christiana Mall, even though I live about 12 miles from there, I haven't shopped there since Lord & Taylor's closed because of the traffic back-ups.

I avoid Rt.1 Christiana Mall area completely. The place is an absolute disaster. I-95 is a parking lot most of the time now down that way.

True Blue, We have always said the man who designed the interchange there for I-95, Rt. 1 and the Mall exit must have been on crack! It's never made sense and it just get worse and worse. It's actually easier for me to use Rt. 7 than I-95 from here. I miss Lord and Taylor and can get to K of P from here in about 20 or 25 min. It's worth paying any tax just to be able to get in and out without a hassel.

The DOT in Delaware has been sucking on the crack pipe for years. The original configuration never had any future expansion planned into it. This was another example of uncontrolled sprawl without planning. Actually some "good 'ol boys" deals in there too. In the late 70's it was all farmland down there, except for Cavaliers Country Club. Then came the school, the mall, the restaurants, the hospital, the hotels and on and on. It was never originally planned correctly, just like every other transportation and construction disaster in this state.

While we are on the topic of planning. Ever wonder why Rt. 7, a main artery but has no ramp to and from I-95? Why does traffic have to bottle neck through Newport and Churchmans Road to get to Limestone Rd.? Again, poor planning and no vision for future expansion. At the time I-95 was built that area was like outer Mongolia so no money was going to be spent tying into Limestone rd. We were lucky there was a ramp at Churchmans, and that was only there because of the Country Club and the airbase. Just think if the traffic could get straight on to Limestone, that woulds solve a lot of problems right there.
