I have been listening to all the rhetoric about this. Dems. say that it is a $1000/yr. tax holiday on average, that means a few will get the full $1500 and most will get less than the $1000/YR. That's, on average, around $80 a month or $40 every two weeks IF you are in the higher pay bracket. It's probably less for the average person. That said, fine, it won't do anything to stimulate the economy or cause some employer to create a job. It didn't last year, why would it do something different next year? BUT, what is does do is further deplete the SS funds by millions of dollars just when more and more Baby boomers are retiring. Does that make ANY sense? And, a two month extension, what's up with that? Why not do it, right now, for a year, just like the Repubicans want? It makes no sense, but it makes a lot of partisan political sense. Obama NEEDS the R's to slow this down, he needs it to have something to run on. We have already seen the platform, all the usual Dem. talking heads have come out and said exactly the same thing. "Why are Republicans voting down a "Tax Cut" (As we know it isn't a tax cut, just a tax holiday paid for by a tax on real estate transactions - Goodie) for millions of workers?". Schumer and the regular list of nay sayers have been on camera all day, saing the same thing over and over. How stupid do they think the American people are? And, agian, what about SOCIAL SECURITY? Where is the money going to come from to fund that?

@BobbyJo, "It makes no sense, but it makes a lot of partisan political sense. Obama NEEDS the R's to slow this down, he needs it to have something to run on"

So, now you are arguing that the Tea Party is doing the bidding of President Obama? The President was all set to sign the Budget compromise bill into law that had 90% support in both Houses of Congress despite all the poison pills that the Republicans loaded it down with, like a rush to judgement on the Keystone XL pipeline(a perfect example of stranded assets:the battle over foregoing short-term benefits of exploitation to avoid the long-term costs in worsening climate change), shortening the length of UI coverage(even conservative economists believe in the job-creating benefits from extending unemployment benefits:it does provide more purchasing power to the consumer), means-testing Medicare, reducing SS benefits, drug-testing everyone on UI every week (I wonder who will pay for that given the refusal to fund the payroll tax holiday by increasing taxes on millionaires?)

No, I believe that real reason for John 'boner' Boehner's about-face, Grinch behavior just before Christmas is that President Obama called their bluff. The Tea Party hoped to demonstrate that government is not the solution so they intentionally broke it . Any example of government actually working for the needs of the country and people would prove them and their guru Grover Norquist wrong . VP Biden was right again. The Tea Party are the real econo-terrorists that Americans should be afraid of.

BobbyJo you are correct. What we need is obamacare repealed, Dodd- frank repealed, the EPA mostly defunded, regulations removed, very low corporate tax, tax holiday for corps to bring money back into the country AND the "tax break" for the common person so they can get a tank of gas and a few loaves of bread every month with their eighty bucks. All that would put this economy in high gear; unfortunately we have a socialist president that only knows how to take. What they are talking about is a voter grab tactic the does not benefit this country in the long run. Obama is buying votes for eighty bucks a month and the people are falling for it. How pathetic. As far as paying for it with a Real Estate tax; the morons hit one of the most damaged industries in this country to shove into the ground farther. 2012 is coming and a landslide of biblical proportions will flush the swamp of Obama and his ilk!

In addition, I forgot to mention that I think we may have lucked out with Coons, I have seen him a few times on FOX and he is moderate, measured and not strident and full of the usual democrat talking points. I have to give him that, I will admit I was surprised and somewhat impressed at the way he presented himself. He reminded me of the old time democrats we used to have in DE, as moderate as the republicans were and wanting only the best. Granted he is a freshman senator and will have to toe the party line, but with some age on him, I think he may do well. Some times things happen for the best, perhaps Coons was just what we needed. ;) Me!

Right! I guess there was a reason the source of the payment was released on Saturday when everyone is busy getting ready for Christmas! I hadn't heard it, of course I was in transit for the weekend so it's not remarkable that I missed it. But, you are right, why hit the most damaged industry now? Every new mortage and every new refinance of an existing mortgage will be hit! I only hope that whoever is selected to run, that no one pulls a 2006 stunt and sits home rather than vote for a candidate they feel is not 100% as conservative as they want. Bottom line, we cannot have an Obama in for 4 years WITH NO REELECTION TO PLAN FOR!!! If we thought he was bad with reelection in sight, it will be awful with a free rein! ;) Me!

You could have saved yourself a lot of wasted drivel trying to defend Christine O'Donnell(with treciama). But, I guess better late than never. lol

What you 'missed in transit' is what exitde never digested. The 'morons' that he refers to are the Republicans who proposed the tax on working middle-income $200,000 mortgage owners , but remained defiant towards making the wealthy 1% pay their fair share in taxes. It is only Boehner and his Tea Party lap dogs who are playing politics with American lives and livelihoods . The Tea Party ought to be ashamed, but of course ,they're not.

I don't care what party presented the RE tax, they are damaging an industry already in trouble, that's the point of the comment.

Great post Frontporch,
The Tea Party cares little about the Country only their perverted political agenda. They care even less for the people of this great Country. But to paraphrase a past President they will end up "in the dustbin of history". Instead of Communists we are dealing with Facists. Very little difference.

I've been hearing on TV an example of a message supposedly sent to Obama re: the tax holiday, which would amount to approx.$40 a pay, if you are paid twice a month and IF you make $50,000 a year. The example they are reciting is that someone brings home $150.00 a pay now after taxes and deductions, and that would only be $110 without the $40. Well, that just doesn't compute. First, if you are making $50,000 a year you sure as heck will be bringing home a whole lot more than $110 after taxes twice a month. And if you do indeed bring home $110 after taxes and deductions even once a week, your contribution to SS would be much much less than even $20.00 a week. It's only 6+% of your salary. That whole example put out by the White House is patently false, it just cannot be. If they lie about something like that, what else are they lying about?

@BobbyJO, You are distracting from the issue . It was the Republicans who pulled back from giving the working middle class a pay cut as soon as President Obama agreed to it . So, it is Republican leaders in the House that are irresponsibly playing with American jobs and welfare just to get a few political points for kowtowing to their Tea Party radicals who want government shut-down completely.

Perhaps if you actually looked into it and the arithmetic you would find they are not lying. You have such a hostile, UnAmericam attitude toward Obama you are assuming. Remember what you said about "assume"? Well you are living proof of it.

The EPA needs to be reined in and enforce laws, not in a sense create them through creating regulation. If they create regulation, then it should go through the same legislative process as a law, that's all I'm saying. And they are not the only department that does that. I understand Congress makes the law and they come up with ways to regulate and enforce, but the EPA holding way too much power. Nobody wants to live in a smokestack, that is a fairly absurd statement.

@exitde, "the EPA holding way too much power." The EPA was ordered by the Bush US Supreme Court to do something effective about global warming. It can't be any plainer than that for you on the EPA's legitimate authority to protect our vital natural resources and environment.

And the vile attacks continue. Sigh....math challenged too, as I said, NOT the sharpest knife in the drawer. Do the math. Get a calculator, put in $1000 and divide it by 52 (weeks in a year), push the equal button. This is what will show up:

19.230769 OR a little over $19 a week,$40 biweekly,$80.00 a month.

Really, if you must play this childish game of stalk and attack and stalk and make slanderous remarks, outright lies and vulgar refrences, at least try to get the facts correct before you attack. You just make yourself look pretty stupid. Anyone with half a brain could do the math WITHOUT a calculator! And, I am getting really tired of reporting all your ugly attacks, as my friend said, GET A LIFE of your own! Jeese, what a nut job.

PERSONAL messages were NEVER viewed no matter what setting, what could be seen were posts made by the person and posts made by friends. Any personal conversation via personal messages would NOT be available. Again, it's just a lie and not a particularly good one. Give it up, stop repeating it with all your names, no one believes it or you.
