The other day someone said that we all should go to DOL, they were having "fun" and lots of comments. I just checked it out and the same three or four progressives are doing a bit of posting but I've seen more action here! And, as soon as I got to the DOL site, all those stupid pop ups started, move your mouse and something pops up and you have to click it more than once to get rid of it. Phhoooo, we aren't missing anything. Well, unless you are missing ICLemmings, John Engleman and LeahMira's comments. lol - better here.

I look at it everyday, a quick check. That site has issues with it's server. It's slow, and then all the pop-ups, skins, mouse overs I can only take it a few minutes. I saw a couple of the posts. Like you say, same annoying stuff. I'm not wasting my time to make a fake face book page to have a screen lock up and fight advertising. I miss nothing about it.

I know, why we would want to go back to that is a mystery. Not only just the same old lefty's saying the same old thing but there isn't even much of a discussion going on. Of course we aren't there make a topic interesting. LOL - I think they are finding that they just aren't that interesting without us to make some very important and intelligent points. To bad, so sad as they say.

When I said agree, I certainly didn't mean to the usual insults to people that simply think differently from you. What you aren't there to do is make trouble and hurl insults and put your intolerence or parade. That being said, I like the fact that "The powers that be" leave this site alone, as you have found out Justpinkangreen on here. They just let the site run itself, which is better.

There's another interesting article on Facebook out today titled "Who Had the Dumbest Users In 2011: Facebook, Twitter or Google?"

Conclusion

Facebook had the dumbest users in 2011. While Google and Twitter users displayed at least a modicum of interest in things that actually matter, the dominant topics on Facebook were cries for attention from other dumb Facebook users. Facebookers stumbled through the year in a haze of cheap endorphins flooding their brains with every "like." Clearly, normally intelligent adults revert to miserable high-schoolers when on Facebook.

Will 2012 be an even dumber year for Facebook? All signs point to yes.

Ya can read the full item at:

p.s. Did I miss the memo changing TNJ to "DOL"? The latter always means Department of Labor to me, but whatever! lol.

Not at all!! I think that was the designation used in the post you were reflecting on-- and I think I've noticed it a few other times and wondered if there was some other announcement/revision/change that I missed.

The comments are definitely way down. There was an article today about the State going after Brandywine School District because they aren't forcing the teachers to attend weekly 1.5-hour long meetings (they want them to spend the time teaching their students instead). This is related to Race to the Top. Amazingly, there were only 2 comments on this article. I have friends who work in other school districts where they are monitored to make sure they spend 1.5 hours per week in these Race to the Top-required meetings. To do this, they are cutting back on extracurricular activities for students, limiting communication with parents & spending many more hours on weekends & at night planning assignments & grading than they used to. These teachers are fed up. But only 2 people commented on the article.

@TrueBlueHen, "But only 2 people commented on the article. " Most likely because it was about a non-issue at the Brandywine School District schools. The real issue is the fantastic improvements in students testing scores since Race to the Top eliminated the worse elements of Bush's race to the bottom No Child Left Behind flawed educational policy.

@THEGOLDENHORSESHOE, "It's quality not quantity." The NewsJournal still has some outstanding reporters doing some great think pieces,Molly,Jeff, and of course Aarons Nathans ! Gary Soulsman on the arts and sciences and DOL's Backyard Gardener Moira Sheridan is fabulous with her wit , naturalist's eye for healthy wild scrubs and vegetable humor lightens the reactionary farmer's workday.

It's amusing to read that there are people who think state scores are fantastic when in fact the scores declined significantly this year (as noted in TNJ in July 2011 article).

@TrueBlueHen, "in fact the scores declined significantly this year (as noted in TNJ " It is also a shame that some clueless posters continue to cherry-pick articles without reading them in full to get the full understanding. Test scores did indeed decline based on programs and educational vehicles of Bush's flawed No Child Left Behind policy. This was the main reason for a complete review and revision by Arne Duncan and creation of the Race to the Top . With greater teacher, parent and student input, more testing throughout the year (which most teachers wanted to better evaluate student progress) scores have shown remarkable improvement. However, the persistence of inequality in the schools (poorer inner city ,less integrated versus wealthier, suburban schools remained ) The corridors versus classroom problem remains difficult to resolve; the use of outside police and methods of control show an increasing problem with violence among students, and lack of respect for teachers too.

It really doesn't fool the more intelligent , well-informed posters here, but only shows how some here have a persistent wish to degrade and lower the standards of knowledgeable discussion (like they did on the old delawareonline comment boards thatled the NewsJournal to adopt the new Facebook format,
