We live in Boston, Ma. and are considering building a smaller home in the community of Ridings, in Lewes, De.
Would like to know what others think of living there.

Lewes is a very nice little town in lower DE near Rehoboth beach area. It's nice but the traffic can be pretty heavy in the summeer, of course if you are used to Boston traffic, it just might be a piece of cake for you! The beach in Lewes is nice, I like it and think it is very children friendly, no huge waves or undertow, at least not that I can recall. I don't really know the Ridings part, but lower DE is pretty much very nice and the people are generally easy going. Are you retiring or just looking for a vacation home?

Lewis is best of all the beach towns for your purpose, you are outside of Rehoboth and all the traffic there, you can shoot straight inland and be in Seaford, Salisbury or Harrington in about 45 minutes, Dover in 45 minutes (not in the summer though, a little longer). Like Bally said, the beach in more tame, and less crowded. From Lewes you a short drive from Dewey, Fenwick and Ocean City Md, Assatigue, all nice places to see and do things.

@apollonia, Rehoboth Beach , and Dewey Beach are the most popular, summer resort towns . Lewis ,De. has been perking up lately,(and good neighborhoods and schools like Smyrna). Lewis would have been a better job prospects area if BlurWater Wind had not pulled out of their Delmarva contract because parent company NRG wanted out. Regular DART bus service to and fro Lewis-Wilmington ,De. makes for a nice ,easy commute to the city's arts and entertainment activities too.
