Studies take early look at health law's premiums

Coverage under President Barack Obama's health care law won't be cheap, but cost-conscious consumers hunting for lower premiums will have plenty of options, according to two independent private studies.

I will find out what the first year of Obamacare will cost me in a month. I am not hopeful and there are more portions of it to come online in years to come.

As you watch your insurance rates climb that old saying elections have consequences should come to mind. When you thought it would be nice to support Obama, well now you know what it cost you.

I am expecting a democratic backlash, nothing gets peoples attention like getting hit in the pocketbook.

My insurance rates have dropped in the last three months - don't know why, don't know how but they are still over $2,000 a month which is not quite reason enough to be celebrating.

I have a friend who's insurance rates dropped because of Obamacare. His benefits were so good under his old plan that his plan was now considered a "cadilliac plan" and under Obamacare his employer would be liable for a 40% tax on the "cadilliac plan". So to avoid the tax the employer went to a plan with fewer benefits which was cheaper, the employer cost went down, the employee share of the cost went down and the benefits went down as well. The plan no longer covers dental, no longer covers vision, the plan no longer covers his wife either.

So yea his cost went down for the insurance but he has to pay for dental for the family, vision, and his wife has to go back to her employers crumby plan that they have to pay that employee share too. So whoopee.

Without Obamacare, insurance rates have risen to calamitous heights. With Obamacare, rates may still rise, but at a much lower rate.

The unions that supported the Monkey King are now screaming like hell to get an exemption from ObamaCare, and like other friends of Obama, they probably will.
Those who don't will get screwed - big time.
There is probably a valid challenge to equal protection under the law, which could make ObamaCare exemptions illegal. If that happens, in the future ObamaCare will just be an unused dirty word.

What was going to drive insurance to "calamitous heights" . I don't see it, I see them going up a little like they always do but I don't' see a "calamitous" I would be curious to know what specifically was going to cause this calamity you seem to think Obama headed off with his legislation.

I like to think things make sense and let me tell you want makes sense. Obamacare means giving more things away be it free insurance for the poor or subsidies for the almost poor. It makes sense that if you give something to someone someone is going to have to pay for it. I know who that someone is, hard working middle class people like me will be the ones getting the calamitous increase to pay for Obama's giveaways.

At 66.66 bucks a day I'd roll the dice and tell the insurance co to shove it! Another case of who was running the country to LET all this s--t come down. Rep or dem ,you can bet they're getting benifits from allowing the big boys to SCREW you yo this day. I know ya allz hate history, but the mass screwing came from somewhere. Happy voting!I pity anyone that to work for a living in corpoRAPE ameriKa.

The annual budget for health care has risen to 18% of GDP, far higher than for other developed nations with longer life spans. The aim of the Affordable Health Care Act is to get rid of waste, limit the profits of insurers by making them spend about 80% of their income on actual health care, and slow the growth of insurance premiums, while improving benefits. A number of studies indicate that these forecasts are on target.

You are full of it, studies what studies, I have not see any studies that say the act is working. Health care cost rise because healthcare has an inflation rate higher than that of general goods, this because it is constantly evolving new better methods which is expensive. Health care is costing us more because he have an aging population bubble who need more care because they are older. These are the two greatest factors of cost. Making the system more efficient is always a good idea but was never the reason for our out of control cost. But even if it was name one thing the government took over that became more efficient then when in private hands.

The Affordable Care Act is not a government-run program

It requires an expansion of medicaid which is a medical program and it effects medicare which is a government program.

It manages insurance companies telling them what they will and won't do. They tried managing mortgage companies and I am not impressed on how that worked out.

A huge difference here is that government expenditure on the health care program is relatively miniscule.
