Wal-Mart walks away from D.C. store plans

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. said it was scrapping plans to build three stores in Washington, D.C., after the city council passed a bill late Wednesday that would require big retailers to pay starting wages that are 50% higher than the city's minimum wage.

Oh poor little defenseless Walmart. Not every city wants beloved Walmart to wreck their economy - they don't want you there so go. I did think the union exemption was a nice touch - a little extra salt in the wound. The economy will not miss the minimum wage temp jobs that are lost and will probably benefit when you look at the part of the tax base that would have been lost as walmart drove other businesses out like they do everywhere. DC prevented a predator from destroying businesses that still have ethics. Great News!
