The economy will bounce back. Government spending created many jobs in the Great Depression, Hoover Dam for example. Some view that as socialism, others as a wise public investment -- a cool site; Balkingpoints ; incredible satellite view of earth

The economy was losing 500,000 jobs per month in 2008. Freefalling to collapse.

Now it's at least stabilized. U.S. GDP grew in each of the last 3 quarters, jobs are always lagging the numbers recovery in each recession. Panic, unwarranted...

You are talking about the WPA? Well, Obama has or had almost 800 billion and he hasn't put anyone back to work except in government positions. What happened to all those shovel ready jobs that he promised. Maybe we should tear down the Hoover Dam and modernize it. That would be a few thousand jobs If you believe the economy will bounce back with the type of policies Obama favors you must live on Fantasy Island. Higher taxes and more government regulation much less ObamaCare will only lead to more economic depression.

And last week 500000 new unemployed hit the ranks with IIRC 47000 created. I don't this is lagging behind. I don't know what to call it but it sure ain't lagging.

Stop the federalization of education.

Disband the Jimmy Carter's Department of Education.

Will reduce number of people on the federal payroll, no more pension benefits for taxpayers to pay and HUGE SAVINGS and the workers will have to go on OBamaCare, and not be exempt like the rest of Nancy Pelosi's Congress and Harry Reid's Senate.(Special healthcare for them, no Obamacare for them.)

Florida does not want RTTT money. It will only be for a couple of years and then poof...the money is gone, but the change in regulations WILL REMAIN in place.

Keep education LOCAL, who knows better, your local reps or the guys in Washington DC who are SO removed to circumstances they put out blanket procedures, regs and restrictions.

Well maybe if the Obama/Hillary administration didn't spend taxpayer money on lavish trips for imans to PROVE the holocaust actually occurred and taxpayer money for repair of mosques and minarets(...when was the LAST time the federal government gave money for a CHURCH to be repaired) then MAYBE there would be money left to help fund other USA projects!

$6 MILLION for foreign religious sites!!! PLUS THE TRIP! STATE DEPARTMENT=HILLARY CLINTON

Looks like the Republicans will sweep Pennsylvania. We watched in horror as Sestak, Carney, Kanjorski, Casey and Specter walked in lock step with the Obama agenda. It's even a slap for Rendell, PA's chief Democratic apologist.

For all their blind, worshipful loyalty, they have been blown off like lint on Obama's collar.

I don't agree with federalizing education either for reasons I've stated before; mainly because it gives the feds too much control over local schools and an open door for still more unfunded mandates. That said, if the feds are tossiing money around, it looks like the congressional delegation from PA isn't worth the powder to blow them to kingdom come.

1. Department of Education was started by Republican Conservative President Eisenhower; not Democrat Liberal Jimmy Carter. Race to the Top is an emulation of Bush's No Child Left Behind with less punitive actions. Education in America is doing exactly what it is intended to do - prevent challenges to status quo. BTW, it was Democrat Liberal President Johnson who laid the foundation of Washington control of education.

It was a democrat liberal Johnson who raided social security placed the excess funds from an independent fund to the general fund and spent the EXCESS SS on other programs

It was Clinton adminstration with AL Gore making the deciding vote to TAX Social Security.

It was the democrat party who voted to give immigrants Social Security without them contributing to the fund.

NCLB-crafted by and present for the signing: Senator Ted Kennedy

3 years and the funds go poof...are you as a taxpayer ready to ante up and pay higher taxes to keep funding RTTT?

Sorry, let's keep education local. Since the federal government has become involved in education the quality of education has gone DOWN in this country. School curriculums are filled with crap and basics are barely covered because of that.

Too many 'graduates' with high school diplomas have to take remedial classes in COLLEGE! A failed system..just imagine our healthcare system federalized.

Get the Feds out of education, disband the department (5000 federal employees WE, pay salary, pensions and they don't even participate in Obamacare they are exempt)

CUTBACK!

It is all a hoax. The states that won were all liberal voting states that backed odoodle or they are key states like Florida and Ohio that will determine Odoodle's replacement.

Another nut from Gibsonton spews more convoluted thinking. The Government grants more money for education and he thinks somehow that is hurting our children. Is everybody in Gibsonton some kind of sideshow freak? Opps sorry, I forgot we were talking about Gibsonton.

. The problem with your theory is that no Hoover dams are being built this time. Environmental regulations would stop these kind of projects. Instead my city got recovery act funds for a teenage smoking prevention project.

. On the flip side, California did not qualify for race to the top. Teacher union thugs prevented the state from making changes needed to qualify for these funds.

The real problem is Green Energy is today's Hoover Dam and it is the Republicans who are blocking it.
