Teachers should be drug tested, Someone goes for a job sweeping a floor and they get drug tested but you turn your kids over to people who are not? And while I am at it, politicans too

Bullying is one of the big problems, that gets
ignored and childrens life is made miserable or
the worse thing happens, they die. STOP IT
NOW. TEACHER..... if you are now capable of
stopping it, resign or get help and make it stop.
Don't send the kid to school to make their
lifes miserable... Your are ther to keep order
and safe. Get out if you can't.... A child
won't learn that is scared to DEATH........

Before they introduced the Teacher's union, NEA, and the Dept of Education in the 60's, our schools were at the apex of excellence among the industrialized nations. Now we're in 17th place and falling. And it has nothing to do with money.

Principals need to be evaluated more harshly for hiring those poor teachers, and more importantly failing to monitor those poor teachers, and failing to follow procedures to get rid of those poor teachers.

Teachers don't hire teachers; teachers don't evaluate other teachers and teachers don't fire teachers. Administrators/principals are responsible for all that.

Let's focus on principals who have been removed from the discussion.

Bad principals never go back to the classroom, they are found other administrative jobs until their retirement date comes around.

Choice in education for ALL parents is what is needed. In this modern age of computers, federal, state and local monies should be able to follow each child to the school of their parents' choice.

Teacher evaluations can be a double edged sword. Teachers in inner city schools spend 90% of their time trying to maintain order which leaves little time for actual teaching. Why should otherwise good teachers pay for their student's lack of parenting?

The public school system has become another failed Federal entitlement program that serves as a day-care more than a learning institution.

Our schools are neo-Marxist in ideology. This translates into ZERO being taught.

All test posturing is simply smoke screen covering the above.

All ya have to do is look at home schooled kids. They know 100 times more and win all open competitions.

Bottom line is that if you want your child to grow and develop and be healthy, do NOT let him attend public education.

Why should good teachers, that are being paid to teach have to work in an enviroment equal to a war zone. Forget alternative schools, they don't work. Either work and study in the program or send them to boot camps. Let the children that want to learn have that opportunity. We have wasted billions in inner city schools, and they only get worse.

If a teacher cannot get inner-city school children to learn, that teacher is in the wrong job! Move the otherwise good teachers to different schools or get rid of them.

We're not doing anyone -- least of all our children -- any good by keeping teachers at work in a job they are not able to perform. Why should parents and other taxpayers pay for teachers' lack of ability?

The schools around Atlanta are terrible...google the Atlanta Public Schools ( test score changing scandal) Clayton County schools ( loss of accredidation) and Dekalb County Schools,(head guy was taking bribes)

Around here, the schools are so rough, the school newspaper has an obituary section.

only 10% of public schools budgets are from the federal government.
(and that INCLUDES the free lunch program)
.
the other 90% comes from state taxes.
=======
NCLB is what started this quagmire, teachers are now teaching to the test, and not the child.

No NCLB did not start the problems in public schools, the quagmire existed long before 2001.

Also, do you have an alternate way to objectively measure teacher performance?

I agree, the problems have been increasing for at least 50 years. I remember the GOP attacking schools in the early 1960s. Yes nclb made things worse, but the schools need a complete overhaul.

no I don't.
teaching to the test sure isn't working though.
.
however it is unfair to say that public school is another federally funded failure, as only 10% of a public schools budget comes from the fed.

Many teachers tell me that in many neighborhoods ,the question is not the quality of teaching, rather the civility of students...After the first few grade,Teachers are confronted with little street thugs...Often with no fathers, and Hostile mothers..

Let be honest...No problems in Private schools, parochial schools, but in the most expensive school system in the world these kids rank lower than a kid in Kenya!...

You cannot expect teachers to Transform little animals, devoid of family, from a thug world to be suddenly smart kids...in the streets?they are smart...Thievery,Dope,Violence ...

..Teachers are restrained with Political correctness BULL SHIT,pressure groups, and LOONS..Who are most responsible for the results of our public schools!!

We are becoming a nation of IGNORANT MONKEY FACE,BOOBS...doubt that??? CHECK THE FACTS before engaging yer half brains!!
