If the state should have known the school wasn't safe, why didn't the parents know? The school was as secure as was reasonably possible, this was a random act that nobody could have predicted or prepared for. These parent's should be grateful that speaker warned others of a problem, it may have saved their daughter's life. They are just greedy and forgetting that they, not the state, are responsible for their own child's safety and well-being, 24 hours a day, every day. So, if the school was not safe the parents need to be arrested and charged with child endangerment for sending their child there everyday. According to their own logic, it's their fault the child was in a dangerous place that day.

Well while the children are at school the school is responsible for the children's safety. Also, I believe that the attorney was asserting that the shooting in particular wasn't foreseeable, but a general disaster was given that the school had a poor disaster response plan.
Not the best of arguments I agree, but I think its worth a judge's time to at least consider it.
