Rush to drill oil shale unwise

In recent days, some politicians have loudly demanded immediate leasing of massive oil shale reserves in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah as a way to swiftly lower gasoline prices.

Maybe The Denver Post will change its editorial after the newspaper delivery trucks start paying $15.00 per gallon for fuel to deliver the bloody newspaper.

The idiot editor of the Banner looks for editorials that agree with his leftist outlook on life. His intellectual vacancy is obvious here. There are three trillion barrels of oil in the shale. And that's what readily available. The might be another trillion with a little digging.

These people LIKE the fact we have to beg for oil. It cuts the country down to size in their opinion. The editor doesn't like the idea of being number one. That's why he's at the Banner!

And you're right. With gas going higher every day how much longer can the motor route drivers hold on? And when the price of paper goes up because of oil and transportation costs, the Banner better not raise their price. They should become the Socialist company the editor wants and publish at a loss if necessary. Because the POOR won't be able to afford the paper.

Dem pledges: I'll 'rip apart' child-rape victims on stand

WorldNetDaily.com ^| June 25, 2008

Posted on Thursday, June 26, 2008 5:13:28 AM by Man50D

Massachusetts politician and defense attorney Rep. James Fagan is under intense public scrutiny after he promised to "rip apart" child victims of rape who testify if the state imposes strict sentences for sex offenders.

Fagan, a Democrat, made his controversial remarks on the state House floor, Fox News reported.

"I'm gonna rip them apart," Fagan said of child victims. "I'm going to make sure that the rest of their life is ruined, that when they're 8 years old, they throw up; when they're 12 years old, they won't sleep; when they're 19 years old, they'll have nightmares and they'll never have a relationship with anybody."

As a defense attorney, Fagan said he would prevent accused child sex offenders from experiencing a "mandatory sentence of those draconian proportions."

According to the report, his statements angered both colleagues and activists.

"I thought his comments were over the top and unnecessary," said Bradley Jones, Massachusetts House minority leader. "I appreciate that he's a defense attorney, and felt he had a point to make, but I think it was unnecessary. It was excessive."

Mark Lunsford, a Florida father who lost his 9-year-old daughter after she was kidnapped, wrapped in a trash bag and buried alive by a sex offender in 2005, said he was shocked by Fagan's remarks. He told the Boston Herald that Fagan should have more respect for the rights of sexually abused children.

"Why doesn't he figure out a way to defend that child and put these kind of people away instead of trying to figure ways for defense attorneys to get around Jessica's Law?" Lunsford asked. "These are very serious crimes that nobody wants to take serious. What about the rights of these children?"

Nice guy. Reflection on the party's agenda? I'm glad I'm not a member of that party. There'd be a lot of hypocritical things I'd have to explain.

But, but, but I thought dems were for the children.

They are for Children....for abusing the children, from the womb and now, apparently, afterwards.

Reflective of everything that’s wrong with this country. If you can’t win on the facts, use every means available to intimidate and/or destroy your opponent. It’s no longer an advocacy system. Typical Democrat!

The Democrats can only say no! The vote for stopping the oil shale development was 15/14, all 15 Democrats voted no. The Democrats always vote no. They vote no on oil shale, they vote no on oil drilling and exploration, they vote no on nuclear generation of electricity, they vote no on gas field production, they vote against Anwar, they vote against coal slurry development, they vote onerous regulations against any thing that might be help the country concerning energy needs for now and in the future. People can't get to jobs, farmers can't pay for fertilizers or gasoline for tractors, Silicon Valley will have to relocate because California is slatted for brown outs as early as next year. The Democrats are the NO party, want to live like a 3rd world beggars and have nothing; vote Democrat and eat cake. The Democrats are not the friend of the working man and women, they are the elitists of the world and they don't need your stinking energy.

Did any of you commentators actually read the article? Do you really believe oil shale technology is perfected and ready and a magic cure-all that only libs stand in the way of? If the technology was ready to go, Chevron and Shell would be pushing to open the leasing now, but they're not. The truth is, they won't know what they want to lease and how much until they know what process is viable on a large scale, how much water they need to obtain and where the power will come from. Infrastructure issues must be addressed before the whole thing can be opened up whether your magic fairy tale fantasies of oil shale believe so or not.

I worked at the Colony Mine under President Carter's synfuels program. There is no question that it would have been an environmental catastrophe of historical proportions. Gigantic areas of land would have suffered subsidence from being gutted underneath, and ground water contamination would have widespread over three states and downstream in the Colorado River.
You don't "drill" for oil shale kerogens. They are trapped tightly in low permeability rock, and the only way to drive them out is with rubblization and heat.
Thanks God, Reagan was elected and stopped the madness. A second term of Carter and Colorado's environment would have been ruined.

When will oil become an issue of national security. I believe anything that effects the economy and causes the dow to drop 355 points in one day, is a call for the government the start drilling! Drilling offshore is one of many options of course. It is never too late to start drilling. Remember, when we pull raw crude from a new new pump, refine it and deliver it to out gas pumps takes 4-5 years. Are we going to wait for a nation catastrophe to happen.

If this was 1942 and we needed more oil,it would NOT take 10 years to get it. We built the Alaskan Highway ( 1600 miles ) in less than 1 year. Congress does not want more oil and lower gas prices.

People who think that oil shale is a good source for energy are just plain misinformed or have ulterior motives.

It would make more sense to produce synthetic fuel from coal than from oil shale, since coal carries more energy.

But it makes the most sense to produce synthetic fuels from Biomass, where there is huge potential and where there would be little damage to the environment.(BTL).

In Germany they are already starting to do this:
