Please vote against Prop 8 in November. I'm a gay man and have lived and worked in Eureka most of my life. My family has roots here going back 5 generations-my great grandfather and his father were both captains on the bay and my grandfather worked for Mercer Fraiser for over 30 years.

I shop locally in old town and on the plaza, pay my taxes, volunteer for various local non-profits, I vote, I try to live and let live and I ask you to do the same by not taking away my rights or potential for a family of my own. I've been with my boyfriend for 7 months now and if we were to ever get married I would want to have the protections that civil marriage gives us.

Prop 8 is a hateful and discriminatory amendment. Please, please be fair and vote no.

Finally the Supreme Court makes the right decision!
Prop 8 is neither hateful nor discriminatory. Please vote to keep marriage sacred between a man and a woman the way God intended it.
Just because a person chooses to have morals and live by a higher standard, does not make them full of hate. In fact, I see more hate coming from gay people who think having a perverted lifestyle somehow entitles them to some kind of special treatment, and they hate anyone who disagrees with them!
Yes, I do hate, I hate the sin, but not the sinner.

I feel optimistic that Californians are ready for EQUALITY, FAIRNESS and the honoring of LOVE, yet I know we can not take this for granted. It is SO IMPORTANT that we all share with family, friends and co-workers how important this issue is for our families with two moms or two dads and for committed same-gender couples! We deserve equal protection under the law and financial, legal and societal equal rights! No one's religious views should impinge upon anyone's civil rights in this country! And, certainly religious freedom is valued in this country as well.

California is ready to do what is right and the rest of the nation will follow as happened before with inter racial civil marriages when California led the way!

VOTE NO on PROP 8! And, tell everyone you know as well!

Don't forget ...our adversaries are our future best allies! WE ALL DESERVE RESPECT!

I don't want special treatment. I want equal treatment-that's why the supreme court overturned prop 22 in the first place.

And I don't hate anyone who disagrees with me-the vibe you are probably getting from me is fatigue. I'm tired of being oppressed.

If you are so strong in your "morals and higher standards" and religion why don't you witness to the rest of us by using your real name "CCC"? Are you ashamed of your "lifestyle choices"? I don't want your religious judgments in my government. That's why it's called civil marriage.

You make fair minded christians look bad.

I can respect people who have different view points other than my own except when they can't respect mine "In fact, I see more hate coming from gay people who think having a perverted lifestyle somehow entitles them to some kind of special treatment,"

Thanks to all my friends, neighbors and people I disagree with for keeping it civil.

How long must the children and families of LGBT people suffer?

These are loving, real life, regular families who just want, what is due to them.

EQUALITY and nothing less.

VOTE NO ON 8 if you truly believe in Family Values.

You don't seem to have a problem with being the judge and the executioner. You may not be doing it from hate but it is going above and beyond your job description as a Christian.

I don't have a problem with gays, etc. It is the choices that they make I am in conflict with. I don't believe that just because sombody is gay give them the right to be married. This country fortunately was founded on Christian-Judeo values that our forefathers of this nation set up. The downfall of our once great nation is due to the taking away of the values that they set up. People have gotten away from these principles because they are selfish, self serving, prideful, and always think they know it all and whats good for them. Our forefathers knew what was good for them, by following Gods principles and not rebelling against them. This country was blessd for a long time. Now unfortunately, God has taken away some of his blessings due to the rebeliousness of the people of this country. Everybody wants to do there own thing and leave God out of the equasion! You have seen nothing yet! Wait till God is pushed completely out of our lives! As I said earlier, I have no problem with gays. They are nice people and all the contact I have had with them a have been really good! They are very good people that are just misguided in their thinking. I love them just the same! Just as Christ would! I just don't think that they should distroy the sanctity of marriage of what God setup. That is my 2 cents!

I'm sure you are a nice person....just a bit misguided which causes you to see things as they aren't and from that make the wrong decisions. It's why we have a constitution and we don't let the misguided make all the final decisions that screw with the lives of other law abiding citizens.

I'm sure your heart is in the right place it's just the thinking isn't.

Have a great day!!!!

I am a trans woman living and working in Eureka. I have lived here for 16 years with my wife of many years. I have many gay, lesbian, transgender and heterosexual friends.

I have read the comments here from people who claim to be Christian. When I went to church where I was learned the teachings of Christ were love and tolerance, not hatred and in intolerance.

When I went to school and study the US system of government I was taught that the constitution and Bill of Rights were created to preserve freedoms and rights. Not restrict them.

I believe in equality for all and urge everyone to vote no on Proposition 8.

There is nothing hateful about this proposition. Gay people are protected from discrimination by a hundred different laws.

However, marriage has been between one man & one woman for eons. Prop 8 merely protects the sanctity of marriage.

when the votes are all counted, ill laugh at all the false marriages that will be instantly VOIDED. Gays are losing the battle, i belive 40 states now have banned gay marriage, 26 by constitution. California will be number 27

I dont think this is a big issue. I dont think ANYONE should get married. Keep your money in your own wallet.

The only cool thing is that gays can share wardrobes and hit the gym together. Plus they have better music.

Once someone starts talking about God or Jesus, I tune them out because they are an idiot that talks to invisible people. Bottom line is that ALL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE ARE DELUSIONAL. You have been lied to and continue to follow an archaic institution that wants your money so they can continue to diddle little boys and live decadent lifestyles at your expense. 10% my ass. You arent getting a dime.

I believe that all men are created equal. Just like the Constitution says. PERIOD. No discussion of individual religious theorys... BECAUSE AMERICANS HAVE MILLIONS OF DIFFERENT RELIGIONS!!!

We cannot let the religious opinion of even a majority of people control our country... our government is there to serve ALL people no matter what.

FAIR IS FAIR.

And the ironic thing remains that these bigots are so very much like the fundementalists they want us to think they are so different from. They're so open-minded, they want us to think...as they say EVERY person who believes in God is delusional.

A bigot is a bigot is a bigot.

Tony--"when the votes are all counted, ill laugh at all the false marriages that will be instantly VOIDED."

It's wrong, morally wrong, to vote to ban gay marriage.

But to talk about laughing at people who've had their dream come true and then taken away from them in this cruel fashion...that's just sick.

And people whine about being called bigots? This proves how appropriate the term is.

These are NOT false marriages. They're as real, as loving, as committed as any other. And if the state decides not to recognize them, they're still married in the eyes of God, and nothing you bigots do will ever change that.

"Gays are losing the battle,"

Dream on. Every single study shows that the numbers of those who are pro-equality are rising rapidly. 20 years from now you people will be as disgraced as the Bull Connors who fought against justice in Selma and Montgomery a generation ago.

"i belive 40 states now have banned gay marriage, 26 by constitution. California will be number 27."

No constitution will ever pretent couples who love one another from getting married. All this prevents is official recognition, which is wrong, insulting, and discriminatory but they're still married.
