I am SICK and DISGUSTED with California as a whole. Sure, it is a beautiful place(in some parts), but I WANT OUT! Here's why-
1. We are and were run by elitist control freaks, such as the so-called Governator
2. Awful place to do business(Toyota left for Texas, as a result)
3. One of the worst economies in the nation
4. Government services are being exposed to billion-dollar cuts
5. The state government is completely broke
7. Poverty, especially down south
9. Awful schools
10. Political correctness
11. BORING WEATHER!!!
Seriously, I WANT WEATHER! I don't care if it is 110 degrees/100% humidity or -40 below, I DON'T CARE! Even DETROIT(!!!) is better than this god-awful place! If you want to move here, go ahead. But just expect these things. Oh, and BTW, I'm in the armpit of it all, the god-awful, boring, ugly, flat, brown Central Valley(near Stockton to be exact.)

You didn't mention the unfunded $160 Billion the state owes for government pensions. I am a Native of Son of the Golden State and remember when it was Golden, but we moved to Texas in January of 1994 and I haven't looked back. Got to travel some for trout and mountains, so we bought 15 acres in New Mexico mountains. The pay used to be a little less, and might still be, but the most sales tax anywhere in the state is 8.25% and protected by law. We have no income tax and 5-1/2 years ago we built a 2600 square foot all brick home with everything top of the line including solar roof panels to keep the attic heat down, a three-hundred foot asphalt driveway, septic system, small barn, and some other small stuff for about $290,000. BTW, we moved out of Visalia and noticed several things here, our electricity was cheaper (Before CA divested power plants even), natural gas much cheaper, gasoline, way cheaper (I paid $3.27 a gal two-days ago), and because we do not pay state income tax, we are allowed to deduct state sales tax. School taxes are frozen when you turn 65 here. Over all both my wife and I got a big pay raise when we got here. I love reading liberals complain about Texas being right to work and the poor people starving. Bunk. Our minimum wage workers do three times better than in a $14 an hour worker in CA, and we spend less per student on public education and our results are better across the board than CA. If we get vouchers and we think we will, then education progress will skyrocket. California and Texas are opposite ends of the spectrum and a fine Liberal/progressive/socialist approach and a fairly conservative approach. Texas has high tech companies moving here every day and we have a $12 Billion surplus. There are some drawbacks, but I moved here late in life and wish I had done it in 1974. BTW, Texans are PROUD of their state and Prouder of their country. Hispanics and Texans get along much better here than they do where you live.
