More Pastors Jumping Off the Rock into the Raging Waters

There are 35 comments on the Free Republic story from Aug 5, 2013, titled More Pastors Jumping Off the Rock into the Raging Waters. In it, Free Republic reports that:

When evangelical preachers lose their way and turn their backs on biblical Christianity, why is it they end up in the Episcopal Church? As a preacher who traveled in the opposite direction and left the Episcopal Church 22 years ago-or I should say the Episcopal Church left me-I think I have a clue.

You post a clip from the story. And then, you offer no opinion.

Then, when you are queried about your choice of quoted exerpt from the story, you throw it back on the fact that you put quotes around the clip, saying they are not your words.

Well, Duh!

When pressed again, you admit to sharing the view of the author. Why the obfuscation? Don't you actually believe what you actually believe? Can't you take responsibility for your choice of clips from the story?

Joe can't take responsibility to inform the Episcopal Church that he is now a Roman Catholic.

Again, how can I NOT take responsibility for my choices when I post under my own name, "Kenny"?

It would be irresposible for me to take credit for the words of others, or don't you realize that putting my comment inside of qoutes indicates that those words aren't mine either?

YOU placed quote marks around an exerpt from the story.

The story was posted in the first place in order for people to comment upon its contents. To do so, they must first read the story or article and form or reflect upon their own opinions. Then, they must post a comment.

What did you do? You quoted the story. Did you quote the exerpt because you agreed or disagreed? Did you have ANY opinion about the content? No way to know what you were thinking.

Not until you were called to task for your obliqueness did you finally admit to sharing or having views somewhat parallel with the author's points in statement. In fact, in the second response, Post #4, you denied both responsibility and personal opinion. Not until being repeatedly pressed did you, in your third response, admit to your motives for quoting the article.

Why the obfuscation? Why not just cut to the chase and state your opinion about the point made in the exerpt and do it in your first post?

You underestimate the value of your own opinions. State them and let them be known.

If you are goofy, other respondents will tell you. If you are sane and we others respond in our own goofiness, send the ship back, on course, properly righted with a following wind. And if the other goofy respondents simply insult you with their own ignorance and cowardice, you have the righteous option to load your cannons for a broadside fusillade.

Look. I'm not criticizing you for stating, elucidating or defending your own opinion. God knows, each of us has the right - even the obligation - to express. I'm only criticizing your habitual reticence to get to the point.

The whole purpose of these Forum posts, aside from the somewhat typical, individually noxious form of personal entertainment that is so often the motivation for any response, is to communicate one's own viewpoint within the wider world of ideas.

Let the chips fall where they may, Joe.

And, be like some of us a little bit who are glad that we do have people who are willing to disagree with us and tell us why they disagree. How boring can it otherwise be - if everybody is simply the sock puppet and clone of the other?

If that were the case, there would be no purpose for the exchange of ideas. And, yet, it is often a good thing to find others with similar opinions and some moral support. But, it is equally good to find that we have accepted poorly settled opinions and then to be corrected or to then have an opportunity to see anew from an equal or better point of view and knowledge/experience.

We are not supposed to be living in a static realm of ideas.

Now, on the other hand, if you are simply going to post some quoted exerpt and offer no attending opinion, either you are being too timid or you are behaving like a snake in the grass or a croc in the cattails, looking for some hapless victim upon which you can snack.

If the latter is your motivation, then you need to be held accountable for that instance of predatory behavior.

What I am looking for, from you, and I expect that I will eventually get it, is an occasional, sincere exchange of ideas without resorting to excessive one-upmanship or even, if that, with a tangible sense of humor. Once in a while, a self-deprecating comment has redemptive qualities.

Show a little more flexibility and then let the military man in you be your guide and an example for others. Then, like you have advocated, "The truth will out." I'll do my best to respect that.

OH, FOR PETE'S SAKE!

Why do you insist upon being a DUFUS?

Again. Why don't you post your quoted comment together with the reason for your choice, in your own words?
