The doctors may not like it, but you can bet the lawyers do. A whole new spectrum will be opening up for them as soon as a Walgreen's pharmacist is involved in a customer's death.
Talk about salivating at the thought, just picture an attorney bringing a lawsuit against CVS, Walgreens, Walmart. The possibilities will be as endless as their greed.
In other words, bad idea.

I SEE YOUR VIEW, BUT IT COULD GO BOTH WAYS. YOU DONT KNOW WHATS IT LIKE FOR FEMALES TO HAVE TO GO TO A REDICULOUS DR APPT., MISS WORK, JUST TO GET A REFILL FOR BIRTH CONTROL. IT CAN BE A REAL HEADACHE. I WOULD LOVE TO GO WALGREENS AND JUST GO GET MY BIRTH CONTROL WITH NO APPT.

I totally agree with you. I think waiting in the doctor's office for some antibiotic, birth control or a skin cream ointment is a complete waste of time.
But trust me, the lawyers will ruin it as soon as they see the opportunity.

I agree with most of the points most of you have said. The lawyers will ruin it the dotcors will hate it. But I don't seen any reason why you can't ask a pharmacist to get common drugs. Why should you have to pay a doctor to get what most people know they need for instance I get bronchitis at least once sometimes twice a year. Why should I pay my doctor for a visit when I know what I need. It's really a waste of the doctors time and mine to have to go see him or her to get more meds.

i bet the pharmacists eventually charge a fee for these "consultations" - and will require the customer to sign waivers, authorizations, etc., etc.

What was prescriptions by a qualified doctor in the USA is being neutralized to the pharmacy practices of Mexico. Noted last week in the media was that psychologists want to prescribe psychotropic drugs. That would be a mistake.

The reason you have to go you the doctor for a visit before getting your oral contraceptives refilled is to perform a physical examination and a pap test. As a pharmacist I would refuse to "prescribe" oral contraceptives unless proof of such exams was presented. Same goes for something like Lipitor. I would not "prescribe" it unless I had the latest copy of the patient's lipid profile and medical history.

Two things that will definitely come of this are an increased amount of paperwork that must be stored at the pharmacy and my malpractice insurance rates.

Its NOT Rocket Science! These doctors have way too much power in their pen. In some countries, you can walk into a pharmacy and pick whatever you need without a prescription. Im only sorry I live in a society of people who don't possess the knowledge to read the instructions or dangers of any given medication nonetheless able to open the bottle it comes in. In my view, its common sense, unfortunately, that isn't very common anymore. Im tired of being held back by archaic laws, rules and Government regulations. Some people need to be led by the hand their whole lives, well let them be then. Give my my crap, when I need it and let me get out of the way.

to be honest and frank, i hate going to the gyno. and i hate getting a pap. and i would quite content to go a few years with out getting checked out. im in a monogomous relationship with the same person for 4 years, and im not too worried about anything.i just want my birth control and want to go.

Patients should be able to buy all the drugs from the pharmacy without a doctors orders. Make the pharmacy exempt. People can get all the info they want through the internet. People use all sorts of dangerous and illegal substances every day without a doctors prescription. Cigarettes, Caffeine, Tylenol damages the liver, sugar causes diabetes, saturated fat causes clogged arteries, Alcohol causes a variety of problems, ibuprofen causes bleeding ulcers as well as aspirin and naprosin. Most drugs can be harmful and doctors can't prevent this. Let the public get their drugs, but they can't sue. This is a very simple solution.
Thank you

If they could pass a law forcing you to have an appointment with a lawyer before you got an appointment with the doctor who gives you permission to buy from a pharmacist, then the circle jerk would be complete.

That wasn't serious for those of you who can't tell.

You're correct, It's not rocket science. It is an in-depth understanding of microbiology, pharmacology, organic chemistry, pathosphysiolgoy, physics, antimicrobial therapy, drug/genetic interactions. But hey, sounds like you probably have a handle on that stuff, so, give him his "crap" already!

Unfortuanely, children will be forced to rely on their parents who may use "all sorts of dangerous and illegal substances every day ... Cigarettes, Caffeine, Tylenol damages the liver, sugar causes diabetes, saturated fat causes clogged arteries, Alcohol[...]" Doesn't sound like a very comprehensive health care plan for our nation's childre. Does it?

generic drugs: not all of them are FDA approved. The doctor writes a script but the FDA may not have approved the drug.

Without scripts/health insurance the cost can be higher. Much higher. Call your pharmacy ask how much one of your scripts is without insurance. Ask about the cost of an antibiotic without insurance.

Absolutely not. We already have problems with resistance due to inappropriate use and prescription of antibiotics. The supply of antibiotics needs to be guarded to prevent further problems.
