Hello,
I've been working in telecommunications for twelve years. Telephone & DSL install/maintenance and a couple of grunt jobs.
Applied on line in Sept. for AT&T Premises Technician position. Was able to bypass initial testing because of my experience. On 11/22/11 attended Realistic Job Preview & Premises Tech Assessment in San Ramon, CA. There were a few guys who ended up leaving after the Realistic Job Preview. The 1st level manager who interviewed me posed four different scenarios that are answered with common sense and on the job experience. He told me that he would be giving me "Two Thumbs Up" and would be forwarding that sentiment to Staffing. I've e-mailed them to let them know that I am looking forward to working for AT&T.

It is now 12/8/11.
My online status: "HR review".

Has anyone in this group been contacted?

Note: I know a few Premises Techs and the conditions they work under.

I did my rjp back in December. And my profile changed to hr review also it was like that for about a month and a half but it changed to all positions have been filled on January 31. Is that just because the contract for the union went into negotiations this month? Because I thought I aced the interview.

@Cowboy86,
If there is an e-mail from Staffing you can use to reply, it would be to your benefit to do so. Let them know you're still interested in the position and you're ready to work as soon as another position opens up. They need to hear from you because so many people don't take the time to show interest beyond filling out an on-line application.
Hiring is supposed to pick up thru March so keep an eye out for new job listings and submit your application again.
Contract negotiations hasn't stopped Prem Tech hiring. In Nor Cal there was a new group that started in January and there is also a group that started today(Feb. 10).

I missed this first round of hiring due to a technicality. I applied for the position again last week after 2 months of no jobs being posted. Status progression: Application Received, HR Review, Exempt from AT&T Testing, Awaiting HR Review.
I believe the wait has to do with the on-going contract negotiations between AT&T and the CWA.

I was told by Staffing that there will be no hiring in California and Nevada until the contract is settled.

I came across www.vivint.com while searching for job opportunities. They are apparently located nation wide. If they are hiring in your area you might be able to negotiate a good starting wage. Also, at their site you'll be able to see what AT&T hopes to replicate with the Digital Life group.

Just got thru Orientation day and the first week of training(Safety). It sounds like Premises Techs will be assigned Digital Life(home automation) when it is rolled out. The second week is going to involve three days of ride-a-longs and two days of wiring.

Safety week involved CPR and First Aid as well as Defensive Driving. My second week started with three days of ride-a-longs with experienced techs at my assigned yard. Back to the Training Center on Thursday and Friday for IW/PW training. Next up is Wire week. So far, so good.

How many months did it take for you from interview to offer call? So far it is 2 months for me with no call.

Mike,
It took three months. I was offered the job the last week of May. Went to Orientation in San Ramon on July 6th. and Training started the following Monday on July 9th.
I responded(reply) to the e-mail they sent me for the interview(RJP/PTA)letting Staffing know that I was very much interested in the Premises Technician position. It worked for me.

Thanks for replying, I interviewed in San Ramone for the San Francisco position and my account updated on June 4th saying HR review. After that I applied for Contra Costa and it updated to HR review on July 17th. Since I live in Concord, I want Contra Costa but I'll take anything at this point. I've already emailed them 3 times saying I want the job. Hopefully they got the hint. If it took you 3 months then I just need to sit and wait.

Yup. It'll happen. By the way, even though I'm about to start my fourth week of Training my status still says "Awaiting HR Review".

Made it thru CPE(Customer Premise Equipment) week! The final test involved role playing. You explain to the "customer" the At&T Yahoo Homepage sign in and customization feature. As well as how to navigate to Support. Then go through a lot of the TV remote control features( Menu, Guide). We were given ample classroom practice time as well as being allowed to take the "script" home to practice/personalize to make it flow more naturally.
I really don't understand why the instructors feel the need to maintain a certain amount of tension in the classroom. It's actually counter-productive to a learning environment. In my opinion it's a poor teaching/learning model. But here's the secret: Roll With It!
Both "Wire" and "CPE" weeks are pass/fail. Make it past CPE week and you are officially an employee. Pay attention, ask questions, get involved.
Our entire class of twelve PASSED.
One more week of classroom training(VOIP).

Two day Unfair Labor Practice strike started today in CA & NV. No surprise for the company, they had managers (two to a truck) at our Prem Tech yard doing Customer Self Installs. As of now we'll be back to work on Thursday. All the company needed to do is search CWA 9400 on the internet yesterday to find out what was going on.
CWA needs to call an Unfair Contract Strike. If I remember right in 2009 a federal offense was committed against the company in the SF bay area. It ended up revealing a poorly engineered and incomplete fiber optic infrastructure. Shortly thereafter a contract agreement was reached.
The CWA needs to call a full blown strike!

Picked up my assigned vehicle this last week and spent the rest of the day cleaning it up and rearranging things. Finally received my e-gear on Friday. Only thing missing is my JDSU meter. Sounds like management will have it for me sometime this next Tuesday. Next up, 15 installs( one per day). I'll use the bulk of those days for more hands-on training with experienced techs.
