Same-sex Marriage Opposition Appears In Vermont | Lez Get Real

Mar 15, 2009 Full story: lezgetreal.com 601

There is a grassroots effort underway to put the issue of same-sex marriage to the voters of Vermont in the same manner that this issue was placed before the voters of California. The reason for this is quite simple, in all likelihood. Whether or not they will ever want to admit it, groups like Take It To The People want to have the time to bring in the big guns. They want their minority of thirty-five to have the resources of the evangelicals behind them while they fight this battle. That is right, according to the latest data provided by Freedom To Marry and gathered by Marco Polling, only thirty-five percent of Vermonters oppose same-sex marriage strongly enough to express that opinion. Another four percent are lukewarm in their opposition. To put this into perspective, support for same-sex marriage in Vermont is listed as forty-five percent for strong support, and thirteen for leaning towards supporting it. Together, those numbers are thirty-nine against and fifty-eight for. These poll numbers date back to January of 2009. In order to find poll numbers which support the opposition to same-sex marriage, one has to go back to 2000, where those numbers were largely reversed.

...My neighbor,a former vermont resident told me that there was opposition to same sex in his home state,I said its been going on everywhere in the country for years, people are complaining about same sex,I really don't see how the govt. can help them, and they should seek help from a marriage counselor or get some books like the karma sutra, really!!! there are more important issues like the economy to worry about,my suggestion to them is for one of them to dress up like a republican the other a democrat(now thats really kinky)or if they really want to take a walk on the wild side, they can go third party--my neighbor changed the subject and asked what i thought of waterboarding-I told him as long as they agree on a safe word...

Actually "we the people" DO have the right to redefine marriage- whether by court, legislature, or popular vote. That's the beauty of America. If you don't like it, feel free to leave.

In all the states that allow gay marriage, it was the politicians, judges and legislators who made the decision and not the people.

Last November, the people of California, Arizona and Florida voted to amend their state constitutions defining marriage as that of one man and one woman. In those constitutions, political power emanates from the people and no courts has any jurisdiction to overturn it except the people themselves.

It is very obvious that the people of Vermont have been hoodwinked by their own politicians when they enacted the law allowing gay marriage in that state. And now, like California, they are back with a vengeance.

Isn't it terrific that we live in a constitutional republic instead of direct democracy? If we lived in a direct democracy, we would still have separate drinking fountains, blacks would sit at the back of the bus, and they wouldn't be allowed to marry whites (or vice versa). Thank goodness that our founding fathers realized the dangers of mob psychology and found a way to protect all citizens through the Constitution.

Just one thing, our founding fathers forgot to define marriage early in our history and now We, The People, have the responsibility to amend the constitutions to reflect that.

Sounds to me like the people of Vermont (and Maine and New Hamphsire) have chosen to elect legislators who actually believe in equality.

We The People are indeed beginning the task of defining marriage- just look at Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire. We will continue redefining marriage in New York, New Jersey, Washington, and yes even California by 2010.

The Founders did not "forget". They left that matter to the states. Read the Bill Of Rights.

Furthermore, most of the Founding Fathers were not Christians. They were Deists.

Listen, "gomer", the main body of the U.S. Constitution guarantees a republican form of Government. This means Representative Democracy.

When the Representatives vote, the People HAVE spoken.

You know, I once asked God for a wife, 5 months later, He gave me a wh**e!. I do admit, I did used to blaspheme God a couple years on down before this, but I stopped this. I figured this was the reason God raped me. If God didn't want to give me a wife, He sure as Hell didn't have to give me that rotten wh**e!!!. Because God bestowed this evil upon me, my blaspheming Him returned with a vengeance!!!. I lay it on old God now and I don't care if I do go burn forever, HAHAHAHAHA!!!. He didn't need to change His mind. God has always chosen to create some people who can only be attracted to the same gender, and continues to bless them with life-partners.

The only change is that now, many countries and states allow those people the same ability to legally marry.

And that's a wonderful thing for them, and their families.

I do think religion causes insanity.

Wow. What a load of crap.

You really need to get your head out of tabloid "journalism".

The "abomination which brings desolation" (the correct trranslation) is IDOLATRY, and referred to the Romans placing the Roman Eagle and a statue of the god-emperor in the Jerusalem temple.
