Real ID imposes big burden on Md.

It was disappointing to read the misleading statements by Stewart Baker, assistant secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, in his letter "Real ID offers real protection" . As a Maryland state ...

I see no problem with this. IF this keeps illegals from gaining access to drivers licenses. Illegals are destroying Baltimore thanks to O'malley and his cronies.....

Maryland should never have become a sanctuary for illegal aliens, as it is now. The Real ID makes sense in the face of the failures of our legislators to keep Maryland safe and secure.

Spoken from the Delegate born in El Salvador. She has shown on more than one occasion where her loyalties lie.

Of course she is going to go against the program. It could stop illegals which she does not want to see happen. My friend just got her license in the online renewal program which has her name but someone else's picture on the license. the security and the total job the MVA does is so poor I welcome real ID. Unfortunately I do not think the MVA can handle any program successfully.

This woman is about as anti American as you can get. Her agenda is for a (taxpayer funded) hispanic America. She tries to get the police to remove protesters at the MVA and state funded illegal alien day labor sites in Montgomery County. She is closely aligned with the Marxist group CASA of Maryland. She is radical. How much are the taxpayers having to cough up for all her illegals? Not one word about that from her or any democrat in the state.

This is the height of absurdity! They are too timid to change conditions in their own country so they come here and try to change this country. On top of this our absurdist boy governor awards taxpayer funds to this racist group, Casa.

The US Constitution requires that voting be limited to citizens. We currently have no method is this country to universally identify citizenship and all election boards are in violation of the Constitution. Our own Linda Lamone (MD Election Board Administrator) has admitted to me that there is nothing she can do about this problem without a change in legislation.

Ms Ana Sol Gutirrez states "In recent years, Maryland has invested more than $40 million to make our driver's license one of the most secure in the nation." There is no proof that that goal was reached. Further what does "secure" mean? Security in issuing licenses to citizens? Security in protecting the MVA database? Security in that fraudulent licenses are not easily manufactured?

Read ID will not completely solve these problems, but it certainly will help. You should realize that we have an estimated 25 million non-citizens in this country masquerading as citizens. Should they all have a chance to vote?

The anti-imigration crowd seems more than willing to sacrifice our rights to privacy and freedom from government intrusion in order to avoid people of color. How sad...and un-American.

Maryland Republican (see above) broached color as he ranted about an "hispanic America," while others took the letter writer to task because she is from El Salvador.
I come from a long line of immigrants, reaching all the way back to 1630. My ancestors came here to escape government and religious persecution, much like many of our current-day immigrants. Fact is, any one with white skin in this country is an immigrant.

Yes, so what?

The vast majority of people in this country are decendants immigrants. Immagrants that came here legally. See the difference? Wading across the Rio Grande in the dark of night is not legal, no matter how much you want it to be.

Also, so what if this country was built by immigrants, does that mean that the US should have an open door policy in perpetuity? Eventually, this country will reach a point where it can only sustain the people currently here, after that, we will be short, food, housing, water, energy, or one of a million other things that make our lives livable.

It's so obvious that the writer of the letter to the editor is unhappy that illegals will not be able to vote of get public services, thus giving them less reason to enter the country and denying her an even larger voting bloc.

Since when does a democrat care about spending tax payer dollars? The cost is a red herring. She's only concerned about her peeps having less incentive to move to MD.

Hispanics come in all "colors". And the writer you are criticizing wasn't concerned with "El Salvador", rather concerned with a US citizen who was Hispanic who wanted to make it easier for Hispanics who were not US citizens to vote here. In other words, he was questioning whether her primary allegiance was to her heritage or to her adopted country. Fair question - but not at all related to "color"!

"Fact is, any one with white skin in this country is an immigrant."

Since "native Americans" came here from Asia, anyone in this country is an immigrant or descended from immigrants.

Law abiding citizens should not have to provide a preponderance of information to prove they belong here.

Here in PA last week, our House of Reps, made up of 102 Dems and 101 Rs, unanimously passed a bill blocking Real ID. Opposition to this unfunded federal mandate is broad and overwhelming. I'm sure most folks in Maryland, my one-time residence, feel the same way.

Linking the databases of every DMV in the country is a bad idea. Storing copies of your birth certificate, SS card, and other identifying documents at the DMV is a bad idea. Allowing all of that information to be accessible to the private sector with the simple swipe of your license through a scanner is a bad idea.
