Bill would lower drinking age for troops in Alaska

Alaska is the latest state to weigh in on a long-running argument: If you're old enough to fight and die for your country, you should be old enough to drink a beer. Full Story

By all means soldiers <21 should be able to legally drink a beer.

I agree, age discrimination has gone on too long for 18-20 year olds. They cant buy lottery ticket, gamble or drink. But they have to pay takes and pay to attand state colleges. This is terrible.. How would this go by if people over 75 couldnt drink, drive, smoke or gample..They are too old to make those decisions.. How stupid. Why is it ok to descriminate against one age group?

Here is the thing: the administrators, the policymakers and the lawmakers are all smart enough to know that drinking and gambling are harmful to our youth and to our society, but they are too weak and too corrupt to try to protect the whole society from these vices, so they put on a show of false concern for the well being of society and flex their legislative muscles against our youth whom they send off to die in war.

But then, there is no surprise in their methodology, because they are elected by and emerge from the ranks of ordinary citizens who also are too weak and too corrupt themselves to abstain from those vices, and who set bad examples for their own children and for other young people to follow.

If I lived within the same state border as Sarah Palin, I'd be driven to drink, too.

I never figured that out, they are old enough to die for their country, but not old enough to drink.

its absolutely crazy that if you can fight for your country, and be willing to pay the ultimate sacrifice that you can't have a beer with your dad/brother/relative or friend at a pub or restaraunt. The military has taught them discipline and respect of authority. If they can't be trusted to have a beer, how can we trust them to fight in a foreign land for our freedom.

Bout time. If they can die at 18, then they should be able to suck down a can of Bud at 18. No big deal (Vietnam Era Vet).
