If a criminal has paid - in full - his debt to society and is not a violent repeat offender, I support allowing them to have their full rights restored. I know a guy who was busted for a couple of joints back in the early 70's when he was 19. He is still not allowed to own guns because it was a felony then.

Now they need to give those non-violent convicts that are finished with the system and in good standing their right to vote back as well. I fully support House Bill 408.

gun rights need to be a right the state should not have the right to say who can or cant have guns. It is easy to become a felon banish a weapon, self defense he said she said. Protesting holding a gun or using or selling drugs. crazy people losing gun right means all you have to is say something the government disagrees with. Repeal the 1968 gun control act

I agree.

The 2nd amendment prohibits govts from regulating guns (period). Repeal all gun laws, they're all illegal and immoral.

I can not see where gun control is working all that well. People that plan on using a gun for something
illegal do not go to gun store and buy it, have background check and then go get a pistol permit. We have the right to buy and bear arms The gun control deal needs some over-hauling

So long as everybody understands that per the second amendment, open carry is a right and concealed carry is a privilege.

In New York any handgun is a regulated privilege according to the State. Permits are at the whim of the issuing judge. Some are fairly open to issuing and reluctant to suspend or revoke a permit. Other judges do not issue as freely and revoke at any opportunity. You don't have to be a felon to be denied your rights in New York.

NY is nuts in other ways as well. Stun guns are ENTIRELY illegal and Pepper Spray cannot be imported from another state/country.. Next thing you know they'll wanna legalize rape.

In the general language of the 2nd Amendment that is not so. What is not specific must be interpreted in the most general sense. The Amendment would have to plainly state that one method of carrying is a right and another is a privilege. For that to happen the Amendment would have to be repealed and another passed in its place.

The constant regulations that chip away at the right to keep and bear are nothing but infringement of the right.

They just legalized same sex marriage..... You can legally marry a person of the same sex but not own a handgun without jumping through hoops. Can you say BULLSHIT??

Well put. When a right becomes regulated it becomes a privilege.

I posted this a while back.

Astonishing how screwed up this is.

Notice that you can be totally legal in one county and a felon in another. All in the same state! I grew up there and I am glad to have moved out! I think you need a permit just to own a pistol. Carry is another permit. But it has been a long time since I have been there. SeenitBefore or someone will have to verify. In the 80ís in Suffolk, you had to get a permit to own one and still it only limited your ability to go to and from the range locked up in a box.

That's a pretty accurate map but Erie and Niagara Counties are getting stingy with issuing. Orleans County used to have a max number of handguns set at 5 but the ENTIRE state requires a permit to even possess a handgun. No other State is recognized here for any handgun possesion. Rights MY ASS!!

Same here. However, if they have been convicted of murder/, they shouldn't have their rights restored. I just think that convicted murderers shouldn't have guns. It's just unconscionable IMHO.
