A drawback of the tourist industry is that they (the tourists) always treat locals like they are part of the scenery. I remember coming back from college in '77 and every tourist on the street sticking cameras in my face. Times they didn't even ask, and they wondered why some folks got angry with them.
But, with age comes wisdom. The industry is necesary for folks to earn a living. Local artists, shop owners, and the city itself all benefit. If there is a drop-off therhaps destination cities should band together and make commercials to attract more tourists. I think it would be money well spent. Target cities where retired wealth is and run the ads during winter months. Cities like Miami, Boston, Los Angeles, and major cities in Europe. There are ad agencies that deal specifically with these kind of ads, and they do it for a fair price. Just sayin'. |
