Our first visit to Alaska was via a cruise ship.
It was fun and relaxing but the real Alaska is out of reach from the tourist trap cruise ports.
Next time we flew to Anchorage then rented a motorhome for two weeks. Did a loop including Denali National Park, Fairbanks, etc. and saw the natural beauties of Alaska not accesible by cruise ports.

Took the same cruise last year in July. Everyday but one was sunny and the captain said he should charge us more for the nice weather. Concerning your comment about cell phone being expensive to use. My carrier is T-mobile and I put it on international before I left and it cost me no more than if I were home. The ship used ATT so the tech at T-mobile set me up so that was my alternate. It worked like a charm.
I really love Victoria. I could live there. You didn't talk about the climate there which is so temperate palm trees grow all year in the Borchardt Gardens.
I am not so keen on tropical cruises but if I took another I would certainly use Norwegian
again as it was a great cruise experience.
