I do not know much about Coach May, however I wish him the best and hope he is a fair, honest, person who will be a great role model and coach. Good luck.

It kind of hurts to see someone who was not part of our great teams in the 80's and 90's taking the program over. Speaking as a former Carlsbad Cavemen Baseball Player it would have been nice to see the tradition carried on to another former player. Good luck anyhow coach May.

Good luck Coach May!

You'll need it soon enough when the typical no life whining C-bad parent thinks his or her lil' Johnny should be starting or you don't win state.

Good luck to Coach May. A fine young man from all appearances. It sounds like he is looking for coaches from the community according to the article. Its a shame the administration will not hire qualified teacher coaches for his staff. I am afraid he is doomed from the start. The once proud Cavemen baseball tradition is dying because no one on the school board or the administration cares.

There were a couple of other outstanding candidates for the job is what I hear. Resumes that were incredibly impressive but no available teaching positions.

I know coach May, and what I know of him, he's an excellent coach and and more importantly a man of good character..... something that has been sorely missing in that position for the past few seasons.

I happen to know one of those candidates that turned in an impressive resume. Regardless of the resume. You by far got the better candidate. Don't be impressed with paper, it can be very deceiving. GOOD LUCK COACH MAY!

Did anyone notice that the reporter accidently quoted Coach May saying that Coach May was an excellent hire? Think it was meant to be Berdoza.

You guys are giving some much credit to guy but why was our basketball record so terrible? We were awful and there were probably 50 plus schools better than us in the state. We could not have won in 3a. So what makes him the most qualified? I know a few of the other candidatesnwho applied and there is now way Berdoza can actually believe his comment about being the most qualified. His 6-21basketball record last year is more qualified than state championships, coach of the year honors, or 200 wins?

He got the job by default not because he was most qualified.

Good luck coach May! I dont think your basketball record should have anything to do with you getting head baseball job. CAVEMEN HAVENT HAD A BASKETBALL PROGRAM SINCE THE MID 50'S (ITHINK). HOWEVER NOW IS A GOOD TIME TO HIRE A WELL QUILIFIED PERSON FOR BASKETBALL JOB. WITH CLOVIS AND HOBBS EACH HIRING A NEW COACH FOR NEXT SEASON MAYBE WE CAN GET THIS TOWN TO BECOME A THREE SPORT TOWN! GOOD LUCK!(coach may did a good job with what he had to work with) LETS GET ALL COACHES TO WORK TOGETHER AND LET THESE KIDS PLAY ALL THREE SPORTS WE CAN HAVE BASKETBALL PROGRAM TOO!

Basketball in Carlsbad will never be very good. It is to long of a season, that overlaps with all sports. When most atheletes choose sports they choose to play more than one. Football players get done after Basketball is over a month into their season. Baseball starts a month before Basketball is over. Either way FB or BB players are at a disadvantage if they choose Basketball as a second Sport. But FB and Baseball or Track do not overlap. And Then add a summer basketball season for the whole month of June. If you don't play in summer Basketball camps you fall farther behind the so called Basketball Schools. With the rich tradition of Caveman Baseball and the strong desire for a strong Football program. Basketball will always suffer. So don't Judge Coach May by his Basketball record. No Coach has done well in Carlsbad Basketball in many many years.

I do not understand how a person without head BASEBALL coaching experience was the best possible candidate. Especially when the program is a top ten in the state

The basketball record is a direct reflection of Cody May's work ethic and dedication. As having a kid play under him, he is lazy and doesnt understand what hard work is. How is the basketball record not a showcase of his success? No, there isnt many very talented basketball players in Carlsbad but there is enough to be good, maybe not the best in 5A but good enough to have a better record than 6-21. Lack of hard work himself is the result of lack of discipline in the basketball program. As the football program progresses, we improve each year. Great morals and hard work is a result of that. Did we improve from year to year in basketball? I dont think so, if Coach May does a great job with the basebeball program, power to him but if not, I wouldnt be surprised.
