Foul Play In Game Called Unlikely -- Courant.com

Unusual cuts sustained by four Southington High School football players during a game last week appear to have been caused by the sharp edges of equipment, not a weapon, police said Friday.

To the editor:
Can you please explain why this article does not appear in today's print version of the Courant or why it does not appear when the East Hartford section of Towns is visited on Courant.com ?
The Courant was quick to run big headlines when the investigation was announced, but not so with this latest story which appears to exonerate the EHHS football team. Shame on the Courant for unfair presentation of this!

I'm sure nobody jumped to unfair conclusions based on negative stereotypes of East Hartford when this investigation was first announced.
(Where's the "sarcasm" button on this thing?)

What equipment could have caused this a football don't have sharp objects that could have cut this players I think a further investigation does need to be done. If the stopped the game in the middle if someone had a knife they probably threw it on the ground and covered it up. Did anybody check the field with a metal detector to see if there was something there. And if it was equipment why did only 4 of them get cut.

It is the media's job to create sensationalism out of speculation regardless of who falls victim and East Hartford is common target. As always, the students and faculty of East Hartford High School will once again keep their heads held high and rise above the typical stereotyping.
Dare the media select just one of the many, many positive achievements at EHHS and run with the story...

Where was the game played at? I'ts listed under Southington by town and under the New Britain Connecticut Region. The website probably categorizes it by the town that's listed in the article.

Knowing that the quarter back and running back were amoung the ingured I would suspect that the cause was a sharp edge on the line backers plastic shoulder pad or a protruding screw on someones face mask. I say linebacker because they would have the most contact with the qb or rb. Now that is not to say that the eqpt wasn't formed to cause ingury.

sharp equipment?...like manaully sharpened edges on the cleats?...or sharpened buckles? etc....it may not have been as sensational as a knife or glass hidden in a hand wrap or such, but i wonder if the objects were sharpened w/ a purpose?....still "criminal" isn't it?

I think it's exactly what the title of this article states, 'foul play ruled out'. Probably something on the field, like a shard of glass or something like that. It's good to investigate it to ensure nothing more serious occurs.

Majority white Southington are back to their old tricks. When I was in high school, the incidents with this school and that bigot town are to many to put in this little box. I was called a deragatory name for hispanics(s p ! c) to my face on four separate occasions. They cant just win, they have to accuse and try to embarass EH. Shame on the whole town. Where is the apology?

What does race have to do with it? Southington football players cut themselves up? Why? Because they're racists? Please explain the connection.

Apparently it's still under investigation...as it should be. Foul play by sharpening edges has been around as long as the game of football. Especially by teams that can't seem to win any other way...like East Hartford. It's wrong and should be investigated.

Why is everyone so quick to dismiss the possiblity of bad equipment and to blame the EH Players?
You clowns are very quick to diss The Courant, but the same people are pointing to the article as if it was Gospel.

The original article was listed with East Hartford as the location. The follow up about the same story should have the same location links, whether on line or in print. It is a clear example of the Courant's bias toward the Greater Hartford area towns like EH and Bloomfield.

Common things happen commonly. Uncommon things don't. Especially in fours.
