If the 2001 criminal case resulted in a not guilty verdict, it seems unfair to let that victim testify in this new trial to bootstrap the current charges.

The reason Donte was brought in is to show a similar pattern of abuse, this is why he was called on this new trial.

Otis is sick, hopefully this time he will have to pay for his crimes.

I get it that the Govt wants to show that the coach has a pattern in the way he hooks in his victims, but if the jury in the former case found that the older victim was not believable or a flat-out liar, it seems unfair to put him back on the stand and try to use him to bolster the current case.

I assume this jury is told that the Govt could not meet its burden of proof in the older case. Then the jury is left to guess what happened in the old case: did the jury think the victim was a liar, was the prosecutor incompetent, were the jury instructions not proper? No one can say with certainty why the Govt lost the first case because you are not allowed to inquire into the jurors' subjective thought processes.

The current trial also isn't particularly helpful for the older victim, who probably just wants to put an unhappy part of his life behind him.

THis young man is brave to come forward. This was proably real hard on him and his family. Homosexuality or molesation is not somthing openly discussed in the African American communiyt.

Y'know, my high school coach never asked me about my sex life. I guess my coach just wasn't cut out to be successful like Otis.

The motto, "winning comes at a price," is definitely underscored here. I was always asked, "how bad do you wanna win?" When you transfer schools illegall, just to play for a winner, you sell your soul. All this is part of the game... Just like when you fill on little boys, and you go to prison, and you get touched. All this is part of the game... Illegalities, brings unwanted actions... Take heed people.

If you havnt been in that situation how can you even think to form any kind of opinion about how and what that man had to go through. Its tough enough to have it happen, but to say the young man wasnt telling the truth is horse shit. It happens way to often and almost never reported.

We always seem to talk about the alleged rape victims, which is important. How about the other victims? How about the kids that checked into Dominguez from 1989 until 2002 with dreams of playing Basketball and going on to college(That is why a high school is in a city) that was derailed by Coach Otis constant illegal recruiting.
I was one of the kids that was effected.

Even though my life has turned out well, i have a family that i love dearly. I still but cant help to think of how many black males that are still stuck in Compton that could've had a chance to get out of a corrupt city and go elsewhere to college and played but more importantly graduated college. I remember a few basketball players during my time at dominguez that i can still name, from 95-99 that played freshman, J.V. and never step foot on the court again because Otis bought in Keith Brooks(Who wasnt from Compton) Tyson(Who wasnt from Compton), Marcus Moore(Who wasnt from compton) and many more that wasnt from anywhere close to the City Of Compton like Tony Smith, who was recruited from the State Of Georgia.

Most of the players just metion was very nice and humble and i' am still friends with most of them until this day. The guys that was passed over during that time could've maybe went to a Div II school or even D-1 if they had a fair chance and got as much face time with the Coaches at Dominguez. A few of the coaches cared a great deal like Coach Dre, who is still there trying to help the kids, many of the coaches that was there was Otis groupies and knew nothing about basketball.

The adminsitrators at CUSD and Dominguez High School, turned a blind eye to this, and its my opinion that they are the true CRIMINALS. They should be looked at as well. They helped damage a City by not standing up and having integrity.

Dominguez basketball program might have helped many, but i can promise you it didnt help who it was suppose to, and thats the kids in Compton and to me, that is major collateral damage.

Wow, let's perpetuate the notion that the young black man's only way out of poverty, etc. is through sports or entertainment. In other words, if you can't make the varsity basketball team, you are sentenced to life in Compton.

EXSSTUDENT99 your comment is heaven sent. What you said about "them" turning a blind eye is so true. Ernie Carr is one that should be on trail with Russell. What about all the other boys he molested that weren't brave enouch to tell. Believe me there are more. I pray with my whole heart that he is stopped this time.

Why didn't you tell someone in authority? School officials are mandatory reporters, if you had told them they have a legal obligation to report it to the police and maybe you could have saved some people a lifetime of anguish?

So why didn't you tell?
