checkers is competitive. checkers takes mental strength.
oh, no PHYSICAL strength. darn.
if i engage in a lawn mowing contest with my neighbor is that sport? no that's ridiculous, as is your notion of nascar racing as an athletic endeavor.
physical strength? HAVE YOU SEEN THESE MEN IN PERSON??? they could barely lift a potato! UGH!

ALMOST EVERY DRIVER IN THE GARAGE HAS, ON TV, DISPARAGED THE IDEA OF WORKING OUT.

name 5 drivers that can bench press their weight! CAN'T

Big Tex you are an idiot with a capital I.
Milk is only drank at Indy and yes the drivers do have conditioning routines either at the gym or at their home gym and/or running. It takes a physically fit person to drive those cars at those speeds for that length of time.
Watch a race sometime so you can make some educated comments on the subject.

having good sex involves stamina and concentration.
enough said!

i was an ATHLETE all night last night! WOOHOO!

Driving does involve athletics. Stamina and concentration. If you have never done it, go to a racing go kart place where you can rent a real go kart (theres one in Albq and Denver I know). Go all out for 20 laps and see how you feel after that. If your not in shape you will feel it. Now, imagine making no mistakes for many many more laps (or especially in rally, a mistake can send you off a cliff or into a tree).

construction workers and landscapers lose 10 to 20 pounds a day in water too and gain it all right back. and QUITE exaggerate. once or twice a season, on exceptionally hot hot days, drivers lose a little water weight.

THEY ALSO HAVE COLD AIR BLOWING ON THEIR HEADS THE WHOLE DAY LONG! the TRACK reaches 150 a couple times a year. the cars? not quite. those little tiny men, without any conditoning at all, suffer no more than Joe Day Laborer. IN FACT, QUITE LESS.

denny hamlin weighs the same as a pencil. please.

JohnnyDeppfan wrote:

Actually it does. They lose about 10 to 20 lbs per race, racing in a 150 degree car isn't for everyone.

what you are saying is that there is absolutely NO LOGICAL CONNECTION between workouts and racing well or 'withstanding' the horrible cruelties of sitting in a car flinching your hands 6 inches at a time in the turns and stopping every 40 laps for a caution break and a gatorade.

ShrubFan18 wrote:

I get that some of the drivers are not in that good of shape but to be able to do what they do then they do have to have some sort of athletic ablity. Thats all I am saying.

taking a dump does not exclude ski.

another point for ski.

hey 'ski'.

how ironic! are skiers athletes? i always thought they were, but then i saw this fat guy skiing really fast one time, in an orange jumpsuit, and he was holding a burger king whopper in his hand while on the slope! scruffy chubby little man, kept cursing about goodyear being the antichrist.

no need to piss when you sweating that much in the incredible heat! oh, you're right, maybe... THEY HAVE AIR CONDITIONERS IN THEIR FREEKIN HELMETS! WHO NEEDS IN "IN THE CAR"?

4 to 5 hours???

maybe with a rain delay! try 3 to 4. try 8 cautions per race i'd guess on average. average out the 8 breaks... i'll even give you the rounded up 4 hours... that's 9 segments... 240 minutes... 5 minutes per caution... 9 segments of 200 minutes of driving... that's 22 minutes per driving segment... that's not very frickin impressive... that's the end of this foolish discussion...

almost...
195? except all the races at bristol loudon kansas chicago martinsville richmond pheonix dover the glen and sears point (i miss any?)

when did you last drive over 195mph in a hot non air conditioned car for 4 to 5 hours without a piss break? hot air - that is all you are. you don't have the first clue how to drive a race car - even a kiddy car

I can be extremely athletic while taking a dump. In fact, I just returned from one of my more athletic BM's.
I was using exceptional balance so I wouldn't fall off the seat. Superior muscle control...proper breathing technique...I even broke a sweat. I really had to concentrate also to make sure my finger didn't slip (at work, lousy toilet paper) and finished with a spectacular dismount.

Everything worked perfect this time. No need for concern tf...but thank you anyways.
