By Labor Day, the Cubs will be so far out it won't matter. Please, who do the Cubs have to trade to get a quality pitcher anyway? You think someone is just going to trade talent for nothing?? It's time for the Cubs to rebuild (again). Trade Lee while he has value. See if the Yankees would take on Big Z's contract and dump him for a prospect. The only way the Cubs dump Soriano is if they trade him with a truckload of cash for a draft pick. Meanwhile, the Cards keep winning. They have a YOUNG team too! The Cubs should just shut up, learn as much as they can about the Cardinals, and start again.

So now all of the apologists and self proclaimed baseball experts will soon be saying, if they already haven't started, Harden is hurt. This kind of thinking is the reason why the Cubs will never matter in major league baseball. Harden sucks! Ryan Dumpster sucks! Fontenot sucks! and yes, Soriano sucks! Theriot is an example of a major league player who is a career back-up at best. Maybe Hendry isn't the sage that Cubbie morons make him out to be. The Cubs won't win their division this year. Marty Brenneman was right!

Sweet, another Cubs loss. At least they still have a chance in this crappy division. I have tickets to scalp, so I hope they stay in the race for a little longer. Why any sap would want to pay over face value to see this joke of a team is anyone's guess. They do, so I feel obliged to make a profit off of them.

3 quick comments on today's game:
1) If the game is on the line, Ron Santo, from his wheelchair, would have a better chance of coming through with a clutch hit than Soriano, Fontenot or Bradley.
2) Dutchie Caray could spark more fire in this team than Lethargic Lou. I mean, why doesn't he just manage the game via videoscreen, from his bedroom?
3) The Penguin will steal as many bases today as the entire Cubs lineup.

Maybe that's good....maybe they become 'sellers' before the trade deadline and start to blow this thing up. I was hoping that Soriano would take an 0'fer for the weekend, to build momentum towards somehow unloading the guy. No team needs an over the hill hitter who cannot play a position and carries a HUGE $$$$$$ contract.

To belabor your point, get your Fukubutt down to Alsip and trade him for any of those lost stiffs. Throw in Santo while you're at it.

Tell me Dave - what game were you watching? Certainly not this ballgame. The ball was NEVER in this idiot's glove. It hit the heel of the glove and fell to the ground. Had the bases not been loaded it would have been an error. Soriano just doesn't care. He goes into the corner to get a double which he single-handedly turns into a triple. Should have been a double and an error. Lou just sits back and watches this nonsense. He talks about admiring Billy Martin. Hey Lou - Billy would have pulled Soriano. I take that back - Billy would never even put him in the lineup. I take that back, Martin would have ripped his windpipe out and done all of us a favor!

This Cubs team is a team which makes you just want to scream. From top to bottom it's one thing or another. There's been so much talk about the lack of hitting, that this club's pathetic defense has sort of ran under the radar.
Harden, thankfully is on his option year, and can be run after this season. I don't think i've ever seen a pitcher who throws a ball any flatter than this guy. Absolutely no movement at all which amounts to nothing more than batting practice pitching.
It's just shocking to me the attitude of Pinella as well. This guy literally does not give a damn whether his team wins or loses. The camera shots of him with no expression whatsoever, after each pathetic play from his team is really aggravating. It's as if the fan's are the only ones who care.
Truly amazing how bad this team has become, and even more troubling knowing that thanks to Hendry, the end is nowhere in sight. If not for the Mets, the Cubs would be on an island to themselves. Fortunately for the Cubs, a N.Y. market team looks every bit as inept as them, and gets alot of the national press taken off them. Pinella should be thankful that it's mainly only the Chicago media which quizzes him. Pinella couldn't handle the media the Mets are put through.

The Curse of Bartman must be exorcised. Just like Curt Schilling's bloody sock will never be washed and is housed at the HOF.
Maybe rather than blowing up the ball it should be in the HOF.

Sweet Lou Whitaker wrote: <quoted text> I was thinking the exact same thing, except the Lions are really the Cubs of the NFL. 52 year of futility is a lot less, though I grant you it really doesn't matter. Both are utterly pathetic. No clue who these "Sox" are or where they play. Go Tigers! I would rather be a Lion fan than a Cub fan. At least Lion fans know their team sucks. Every year Cubbie fans think their team is going to win the championship and look for scapegoats when they don't. Lion fans stay away from games and hated Matt Millen and got him fired. Cub fans keep coming out to Wrigley and supporting their lovable losers while Hendry get's a long extension on his contract.

murphy from canada;Dont bash the cardinals just because your team sucks. Are you a gambling man if so id like to spend some of your money.Your team is imploding because your gm made some terrible moves in the off season.Derosa was a great team leader and why not bring edmonds back he won alot of games for the cubs in his short time there. And then to spend it all on bradley just what you needed another hot head with a big mouth!Lou is a great manager but like he said what is he supposed to do he had the rug pulled out from under him by the front office. And as far as that punk in left field goes [i wont even say his name because he dont deserve it]not only is he destroying your team him and others like him are destroying the game that i love.As a cardinals fan i feel very fortunate to have these no name players who hustle and play the game the way its supposed to be played.I think alberts triple in the game yesterday says it all, heres the best player in the game hustling his but off to help his team win vs an overpaid self centered punk jogging after the ball!

To the loyal cubs fans for what its worth you have my respect.Im not talking about these idiots on this thread with some great ideas like trading derek lee or firing lou.Im talking about the fans whom i met while on a vacation to wrigley a couple years ago.The ones that back their team win or lose with a passion that ive not seen before not even at busch!I never thought i would say this[i used to be a cub hater]but the next time the cardinals dont win the series i hope the cubs do.You have suffered long enough.

If the Cardinals' offense gets on track like it appears to be doing, they're going to run away from the rest of this division in the 2nd half. This division blows anyway. Pujoz and above-average pitching (for STL) has carried them to first so far.
This is more relevant to the Brewers. The Cubs reek.
