This is clearly the most frustrating game of the year to date and it's because the Cardinals outclassed and outplayed us in every phase of the game. Our guys were completely unprepared. The reality is that this is a huge series that will determine whether we are contenders and guys need to be prepared to play at their highest level. Unfortunately, our guys were not. If we get swept, Piniella needs to be gone, because in 2007 and 2008 he was up to the task of managing this team against La Russa and the Cards, but this year, he has not been, and our season could go down the drain because of it. These guys need to realize that with the ownership situation no help is on the way and it has to be the guys currently here that get it done. The Cubs performance today was inexcusable. While I understand the improvement since Piniella, I think that a manager should be fired as soon as it becomes clear he can't win a championship with the team. Otherwise, what's the point?

this team has no heart, no chemistry, and little fundamental capability. The righty-lefty argument about 2008 a fantasy. The real problem is trying to build a playoff successful team with a strike out loving lead off man and poor fundamentals. How is it the cardinals year after year -- every year, even if they don't win it, and regardless of the players -- have a culture of fundamental team baseball, and every year, the Cubs can't catch, or hit to the right side to advance a runner, whatever? This team sucks

Nada, you're an idiot. Perfect game is just that. No base runners. No it was an error, or dropped strike 3 or guys getting on base in any fashion. That's the problem with the world today: let's make an exception and give him the "perfect game" even though he didn't earn it. Quit your enabling whining.

RO FL. Purist, you're an idiot. The guy didn't allow a walk or a baserunner, other than an error. He should get the perfect game. That's the problem with world today: Too many idiots like Purist out there. |

no hitter
sf pitcher only 1 base runner, who reached on error By Juan Uribe. This kid should still be given a perfect game since he hasn't allowed a walk or a hit. It figures a former White Sox player prevented a perfect game (and I'm not a White Sox hater). Jonathan Sanchez's father had never seen him pitch in the major leagues, but he was at the game tonight. |

Need to think about today's loss. I thought at first that the Cubs played poorly, terrible, just not major league quality performance for those who spent their hard earn money . Then hours later, I still came up with the same conclusion.
As everyone else has been saying, time to clean house. But who will take on these large contracts? Is there a way for Jim Hendry getting hired by some other ball club as their GM by July 31st? How long will we hear Lou in post game interviews telling us that he has no answers to his team? Is there a chance of seeing Keith Moreland come down from the WGN booth and be our catcher on Saturday? It is getting late, and a pitcher named Sanchez of the Giants just threw a no-hiiter. Can anyone name the last Cub to throw a no-hiiter? Zambrano looks like he is picking up weight. Has Rick Reuschel size but not pitching abilities. But I would rather have Reuschel right now than Zambrano. I might even take Paul Reuschel for bullpen help at this time. We can say that Milton Bradley did not help the Cubs lose today by dropping a ball in the outfield. Has anyone ever thought of pitching up and in on Albert Pujols? Send some chin music! Cubs are only 4 1/2 games out of first place. It is a weak division, but the Cubs need to win the next three to be in this race. Or we will remember it as the weekend that the Cubs 2009 season ended. |

After Soriano's escapades this afternoon, I hope somebody put the Ricketts family on suicide watch.

Its funny to see how each city perceives the other club. In St. Louis we see the Cubs as the team that can run away and hide from the rest of the Central. You have much more talent overall and we keep hoping just to hang in there as long as possible. We are wondering how all of these AAA players are competing.

Cub Talk
Westmont, IL "Has anyone ever thought of pitching up and in on Albert Pujols? Send some chin music!" Uh, yeah.. Usually backfires.. Brad Lidge. 2005 NLCS. Couple of pitches later, Albert almost knocked out a place for a new, upper deck gate at Minute Maid. Stupid, loudmouth Cub fans.. Looking at being 7 or 8 games out at the All Star break and they're woofin' about throwin' "some chin music.." |

Maybe if the Cubs all wore D & G they would play better.
What's D & G? Dolce & Gabbana...HELLLLLO |

Settle down Cubs fans. I'm a Cardinals fan but this thing isn't over by a long shot and the Cubs could easily go on a tear and win it. The Cardinals have looked awful at different times with the fans tearing their hair out and saying exactly what you're saying now. It is hard to watch when it's bad I admit.

The Cubs absolutely need to rebound. If they can't win these last three, I think they are done. Unequivocally.
They should definitely look to unload some players in the coming week. I'd imagine they would get some takers for Bradley and maybe even Soriano if the Cubs agree to pay most of his deal. InsideChicagoSports.com has a good piece on the Cubs need to be sellers as the deadline approaches. http://insidechicagosports.com/2009/07/01/cub... |
