Full story: The Morning Call

Members and officials of a private swimming pool here reacted to a visiting group of minority children by asking them not to return and pulling other kids out of the water, a day camp director said, and the state is investigating.

This just stinks.

A deal's a deal; they sold the time for access, so they must provide it.

I saw the story on TV as well -- Claiming that this is a safety issue after-the-fact isn't going to fly.

I think the club will need to be compelled to change.

No matter what this club does or says in regard to this, it obviously has very bad racist undertone and overtones to the whole incident. Sadly, children learn at an early age where they "fit" in the pecking order of things.

It is pretty darn ignorant to try to make up a story as to what really happened here. Better to just acknowledge it, apologize for the rudeness of the locals (not a politician's apology...), and move on.

i dont see these people winning. its a private club, they have the right to decide who they do and dont want there. im not saying its right but there really isnt much you can do. i mean if they win this case, where does it stop? will people not be allowed to determine who does and doesnt come into there house? fine lines are being crossed and its just going to heat up the melting pot to an uncontrolled boil.

I agree this is a private club and has the right to decide who they want there and who they don't. HOWEVER...When this day care owner called and made arrangements and paid the $1900 the club owner knew right then and there they were inter city kids so why not say NO then? Why wait and have these kids come there to be made to feel like they don't belong!!!

ehhh unfortunately this is still shaky ground, you see they may have made the arrangement but once they showed up if a number of the members complained of them being a nuisance they really dont have much choice but to take action. again i state it may not be right but these are the rules and loop holes.

I'd be willing to bet my LIFE that some of the white people who did not want the black kids at the pool voted for Obama. In tegration only goes so far in the minds of a lot of Liberals I know.

I admit parents have the right to control who their children socialize with, however, in this day and age stating you racial views to children is not acceptable. Can you imagine what these suburban white Liberals felt when they saw 60 plus Black kids jump off that bus??? Was this a Jewish swim club? It took Spector about five minutes before he showed up!

Private club or not. Discrimination is just that. Now with the NAACP involved, you know this isnt just gonna go away. Were the kids causing any trouble, or was it just because they were black? Pulling your white kid out of the pool is one thing. But to stand there with your arms folded is just plain obvious. The parents display of out right racism is so pathetic. This isnt the 50's any more people, wake up!

You personally know that the membership at this private club is predominately "Liberal"?

Are you even capable of posting a comment on any thread without using the words "liberal" or "Obama"?

In any event, since you're the first one to bring Obama into a totally unrelated thread, you win the "Idiot of the Day Award".

Congrats.

They turned away two other day cares, that YES, had white kids. The club wanted to help out the kids, but underestimated the impact on safety with so many extra bodies. This has NOTHING to do with racism, so get over it. We have a black president and the blacks are still crying foul. Why isn't anyone complaining about the pools that closed down in the first place?? Maybe they didn't want the little black brats coming to swim anymore so they closed down. It's funny how only white people can be racists. I mean Sotomeyer wouldn't be a racist would she?? Nah, couldn't be. If you didn't vote for Obama, you might be a racist. If you attended a tea party, you might be a racist. If you try to help out kids and then realized you bit off more than you could chew, you might be a racist.

1. In legal standing, by also breaking contracts with two other groups in addition to the third, there will be no basis for a legal challenge.

2. Even in private contract, you can not engage in racial discrimination. This issue was visited many times with regards to real estate sales.

3. Obviously the club is seeking to maximize revenues, but opened a can of worms once they decided to accept contractual day campers to use the facilities.

I am not a racists and it stinks for these children, especially for the ones who overheard parents speaking derogatory about them. It is a shame we cannot keep children immune and sheltered from such things, but life is sometimes brutal.

There is no legal case here because of the actions of the club to essentially end all contractual swimming. They obviously had a quick discussion with thier legal counsel on how to handle this issue. As for public relations, it goes to show you what is in Huntington Valley, which is quite nice, but racism exist everywere in the world.

I took the family to swim at a community pool in Compton. They tried to beat my "cracker" head in.

Wasn't so bad, though. I had to leave, but at least my wife and daughters were allowed to stay.

I think there was a concern of a Jheri Curl slick igniting and burning ALL the children regardless of race.

Jheri Curl is indiscriminant, when ignited.
