State to investigate claims of pool discrimination

State officials will investigate accusations of racial discrimination against a suburban Philadelphia swim club that allegedly reacted to a visiting group of minority children by asking them not to return.

Akron police say they aren't ready to call it a hate crime or a gang initiation.

But to Marty Marshall, his wife and two kids, it seems pretty clear.

It came after a family night of celebrating America and freedom with a fireworks show at Firestone Stadium. Marshall, his family and two friends were gathered outside a friend's home in South Akron.

Out of nowhere, the six were attacked by dozens of teenage boys, who shouted ''This is our world'' and ''This is a black world'' as they confronted Marshall and his family.

The Marshalls, who are white, say the crowd of teens who attacked them and two friends June 27 on Girard Street numbered close to 50. The teens were all

Now we hear that Senator Arlen Spector (D-Pa)
wants to stir-up-the-crap on this whole private swim club affair. This is the same Senator who wanted to waste a ton of taxpayer money on a full blown Congressional investigation on having the NE Patriots and NFL to explain why it allegedly destroyed evidence from an alleged cheating scandal during the 2007 Super Bowl. Really makes one wonder if these guys in Wash DC are just out to get on the 6:00 news to justify their continued positions. It's a private swim club Senator! They can say who can use their facilities and who can't apart from the federal bureaucracy.

I wish the state would come in and investigate the York city pool. They have the gull to charge poor people 8 bucks to wade in a jive area about the size of bathroom. There is no place to actually swim, the deepest part is about 3 feet, it holds only a mere hundred people at best, parking is limited, there is no place to park a bike, the music is country and western at best and all of these signs point to not wanting the poor people of York to come to the pool. What a pretext. You might as well hang a sign up that says, "We robbed the stupid people of York of their land to build a pool for those who are not poor cause we don't wantem here." YMCA? what a joke
