Wow! That's one lucky kid. Luckily there were two guys there who administered the necessary CPR to bring this kid back. I hope after he recovers, he goes back out there and continues to play baseball without the fear or psychological trauma becoming a constant factor in his play. This is one of those moments where the ball hit the kid in the perfect point on the chest and caused this whole mess. What are the chances of it happening again to him. Slight, if any. I hope this kid can rebound from the injury and just go back out there and get on with being a kid.

I hope that this event results in an action or law maybe a Cairns Law. We need our coaches to be trainedIn CPR and defib. Some coaches and teams are trained and have obtained Defibulators. All sports should.

in ny we do have a law requiring all high school & college teams to have AEDs within the site
neighborhood youth leagues also comply with that requirement
cpr & AED training is not that difficult to complete
smart leagues require it for coaches

it's the best defense for commotio cordis

My son and daughter both attended Wilson High School a few years ago and the school sport teams had defibrillators and the staff knew how to use them. They were prepared in case anything happened. Hope Los Al gets the same program started.

Los Alamitos does require their baseball coaches to learn CPR before they can coach.

I agree, I know for fact Los Alamitos Coaches are trained in CPR before baseball season every year. Maybe the coach was not as well equipted to administer CPR as a fireman would be though. I know there were people there that were better prepared plus a cardiac nurse.

Its not reasonable to expect that at every sporting event...this was a little youth league...there are dozens of parks in a city, you can't cover them all...imperative that the leagues take steps to be prepared...

The Los Al Coaches were not the ones coaching that day, they did not coach the summer league this year. Volunteers were helping. It was a freak accident but it just goes to show that everyone needs to be prepared in the event of an emergency. Parents need to step up take action and learn CPR for themselves. My family is going to!

This happened to my son about 1 year ago here in Australia, He was 2 years at the time and thank god his mother knew CPR and administered it for 10 mins before paramedics got there to use a diffibulator. He fell from a height knocked his 2 front teeth out. What we need it to have at least 1 parent to know CPR, free classes!!! Nice to hear Hunter is ok.

Hunter,
You probably know it by now, but from you comments as shown on CBS2 NEWS this evening I'm not sure you're aware how lucky you are. I want you to know you've got three gaurdian angels watching over you . I've got to encourage you to give Jack Lee and Steve Roberts a hearty thank you for saving your life. You wouldn't be here if it wasn't because of those wonderful guys. Hope you can realize that one of these days.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Virgo

Be careful you don't wind up doing someone else's work today, Virgo. There are all sorts of little tricks to persuade you to take pity on them, from pretending to be ill to making such a hash of everything that you can't bear to watch for a moment longer. Then you are likely to be asked to put in some overtime, at the expense of your social life. Grr.
