Yes lets blame the city because the parents don't know how to teach responsibility to their kids. Maybe the city should sue the parents for lack of knowledge of teaching a child to deal with such a situation. Lack of communication skills to tell the adult the situation and emotional distress to everyone who has hear these STUPID charges. Then the parents can sue the child for emotional distress the cause when the kids was lost. I'm going to sue the parents, sun-news and the city for this situation occuring , the sun news reporting this story, and the parent having the child because I sufferered emotional distress worring about how much of my tax dollars may have to go to these "loving, careing, well educated parents." and also thinking this story over and laughing so hard that I fell out of my chair and bumped my head and suffered a head injury. So everyone grab your wallets , Im coming to get mine. what has this world come to....sue happy non responsibly human beings

We accomplish this by reducing everyone to the lowest common denominator. This naturally requires the NANNY STATE to care for us. Don't you agree? I DO NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU, but when i was 8 my teachers had us hold hands to stay together. so i'm sorry you hateful people it is the city's fault to the degree that this employee didn't guard the safety of hat child nor watch over that child properly. but you're absolutely right i wouldn't sue the city i'd sue YOU hateful people...wait you are the city :D

Heres an idea...Have the city sue the parents for leaving them with a stupid child who has no discipline. I know that an 8 year old knows the differance between right and wrong in most situations. What a stupid A$$ kid. If she was my daughter i would whack her a good one for running off. Yes the city could do things better as far as managing these kids like so many kids to one adult that way they keep eyes on their assigned kids and can also keep aware of those around them. No matter how this story continues the city is going to be blackballed cause of a dumb kid. Seguras instead of looking for a quick buck...try working its alot easier that this BS pity story the paper did for you.

Whew! What a relief to read the comments on this thread. I certainly hope the parents take a look at it - YOU ARE RUINING THE SYSTEM. This was nothing more than a simple mistake and it sounds like if anyone is to blame it's the child. Life isn't perfect and a lawsuit solves nothing. Everything worked out ok so GET ON WITH YOUR LIVES. A lawsuit for a 20-minute incident? Do they even understand how lengthy and expensive that would end up being? When I was 8 I once went to a state fair with a group of kids. I got lost. It was probably a good 30 minutes until I was reunited with the group. Upon mentioning it to my mother that night the reaction was nothing more than "Oh, be careful next time." The concept of filing a lawsuit over a non-issue just didn't exist. GET A LIFE.

The child was lost for 20 minutes. That is not the cities fault.I say don't allow the child out on field trips until the parents teach the child to stay with the group. Problem solved.

Parents should be with their own children. Don't ship them off in order to get a break or something. They are your responsibility. That said, I'd have a fit if my child were lost while on a school field trip etc...I think that the city tends to hire young, low paid staff that has not got the experience, the desire or the ambition to honestly take care of a bunch of unruly children. If she forgot her shorts, she should have been told, too bad. You get them tomorrow or some other time. And yes, the parents should have trained their child better as to what to do if she got lost. Certainly, she should have not just gone off. We are such a spoiled sue happy society. What a mess all the way around.

No harm, no foul. No lawsuit. Everyone knows these summer rec programs are insider programs where you have to have connections to get your kid in. Here's how it works. One mother goes to the registration place at 2 a.m. and gets in front of the line. She registers her six kids, those kids' 39 cousins and all the cousins' friends. There, everyone is registered, and there's no room for anyone else. That's how it really works. All by one mom -- the designated registrar.

Have you forgot your own child hood when you could walk the streets freely? Well you can't allow that now days and 8 year olds need to have someone watching them every minute. Sorry if you take on that responsibility, and are paid to do the job then you should be doing it. I say bring awareness. Let other parents deside it they want to continue to send their kids. But I am not sure about the need to sue. It sounds like the those responsible are willing to make sure it does not happen again.

Really wrote: What would you do if you entrusted your child's care to someone and they LOST them. These people are responsible for a lot of kids and need to be held accountable for putting one in danger. It's not like you can replace someone's child! So all of you criticizing thinking they're looking for a hand out keep your opinions to yourself and I hope you never have to go through something like this, the fear of someone else losing something so precious and irreplaceable. Exactly

The lawsuits isn't necessary since the child was found safely like someone say no foul, no harm, and no lawsuit.
Only thing need to do is criticize the people who are responsible taking care of the children to do a better job. Make sure something like this won't happen again.

I got a better idea how about you go play in traffic and get hit by a car or better yet stand at the middle of the train tracks. Hopefully a train hit you just for making a stupid comment you have made. But other wise act like a man and don't make stupid comments like this again.

I'm guessing your parents doesn't like you when you were a child or unless you are still one? People like you why what's wrong with today's society. When you drop a child to a recreation for whatever program they have over there, it's their responsible to take care of the kids. Yes people make lawsuits for stupid reason and people make mistakes but you aren't any better with your two stupid comments you have made here. It's better for you not to post stupid comments like this one and the other one again.

Wow wrote: Lets sue the city because we can not take care of our own kids! I bet they are parents that let there kids run around for hours without anyone knowing where they are at. Look at this we can make some money! Dude if you have a kid and you drop a kid to some recreational center for some program or camp they have. People who work their is their responsible to take care of the kids and do a better job at it. I agreed though that there should be no lawsuit but there should only be criticize. Hopefully something like this won't happen again luckly the kid was found and safe. But if something like this happen again it might not turn out well if it happens again but hopefully it doesn't.

Kermit wrote: The first six comments here are beyond belief. Keep in mind you're talking about a little child. What a bunch of cynical, crass losers. I'm not saying a lawsuit would solve anything, but how about playing a little game called "empathy," and think for a second how YOU would react were it your child (though none of you sleezy jerks sound like parents). Mistakes happen, but don't take the Sun-News headline out on the parents. Ridiculous! There are probably thousands of parents who lost their kids momentarily (in the store, in the yard, etc). The parents in this case are showing their opportunistic side and want to make a mountain out of a mole hill. We taught our kids to go to a store clerk or policeman if they lost touch with us in a store. Parents share a responsibility. Moving this incident to something of a lawsuit or even contacting the papers is just a shameless example of wanting to blame someone else. AND then sue to put the nail in the coffin!

My God people, shes 8 yrs old, they usually when panicked don't think rationally, they aren't equipped with those type of skills at that age. It is up to the adults who were in charge of her to be the responsible party here, not the child. Most of the workers at these rec facilities are just out of high school and I can guarantee the city doesn't spend much time on training, I know they only pay them minimum wage, so I guess you get what you pay for.
