Lets sue the city because we can not take care of our own kids! I bet they are parents that let there kids run around for hours without anyone knowing where they are at. Look at this we can make some money!

Jeeze. Let's send the poor parents a few bucks "so it won't happen to other kids" I guess it's not enough that the child was found safe after 20 minutes. Get a life, parents.

Typical of America's society as a whole. Quick, let's blame it on somebody else.

You can't tell me that these parents never lost track of one of their kids before. Besides, if they educated their children on what to do if they get lost, that would help really big.

But......no, we need to file a lawsuit so we can get some taxpayer's money.........free.......!

That girl doesn't seem too bright. Maybe the parents should enroll her in a therapeutic recreation program at Tresco instead.

One of the first things you should teach your children is that if they get lost they need to SIT DOWN AND STAY PUT and let the people they were separated from find them. I think the title of this article should be "child wanders off". Seriously.

What would you do if you entrusted your child's care to someone and they LOST them. These people are responsible for a lot of kids and need to be held accountable for putting one in danger. It's not like you can replace someone's child! So all of you criticizing thinking they're looking for a hand out keep your opinions to yourself and I hope you never have to go through something like this, the fear of someone else losing something so precious and irreplaceable.

Absolutely! And why wasn't this child taught by HER PARENTS to seek out someone in authority? Granted, there's probably not a policeman at the pool, but there are responsible adults (lifeguards?) present who could have helped her. Most children are taught that they should find a woman with children, as they are likely to help. This child panicked and left. The city is not at fault here.

The first six comments here are beyond belief. Keep in mind you're talking about a little child. What a bunch of cynical, crass losers. I'm not saying a lawsuit would solve anything, but how about playing a little game called "empathy," and think for a second how YOU would react were it your child (though none of you sleezy jerks sound like parents). Mistakes happen, but don't take the Sun-News headline out on the parents.

I don't think a lawsuit is necessary. That's absolutely insane.

First, I do empathize with the parents. I for one would want to meet with the staff and city to insure they have better procedures. Second, I would thank the good Lord for watching over my child. Third, I would NEVER file a law suit over this type of situation. This is what has screwed up our society.

Why would I thank the "good Lord? Wasn't he the one who put the kid in that situation in the first place?

Let's face it,the parents are using the City as a babysitting service so that they may make more money and now they are looking at a way to make even more money,it's not about other children(nice spin)it's about them getting money through legal extortion.Heck, they couln't even be bothered to pick the child up.

A lawsuit would be over reacting.

No real harm done.
No victims. No casualities. No bleeding.

Learn by this oversight in people wrangling
and turn the page.

We are only human.

And please try harder not to
allow this to happen again.

Yes, I AM a parent. Would I have been frightened? YES, but I also would have looked at what I failed to do as a parent not what others had done. I would analyze what I needed to teach or RETEACH my child about being in situations like this. As a parent, if I wanted to make sure this didn't happen to other children at the summer rec program, I would talk to parents and make sure they have done their jobs in teaching their children about what to do if they are lost. What will legal action do but possibly cause a widely used and much needed program for a lot of families to close the doors?
my two cents

i agree with everyone that:
-the parents are over reacting
-no harm,no fowl
-money greedy parents, trying to make an easy dollar
-it is the parents responsibility to teach their kids what to do, if ever, they are separted by a group/party.

yea, the girl panicked and grossed over Picacho herself. so initially, SHE placed herself in danger, no one else. i agree with "Tinky Winky."

Personal Responsibility is dead, don't you know. Some parents these days, jump at the opportunity to blame others. I agree that some mistakes were made, adjust policy, don't file suit. Absolutely parents should educate their children on what to do in the event they find themselves separated. Start looking for solutions and stop trying to take advantage of what could have been a tragedy.
