I've seen a lot garbage and dull-witted humor consisting of name-calling techniques from you, but not much I or anyone else wanting facts and a serious argument would consider substantive. I respect your right to dislike the Dolphins. That's certainly your prerogative as it is mine to dislike the Pats, Bills, Jets, etc. But I still try to be realistic in evaluating them or anyone else. That said, I find your analysis of the Fins situation simplistic.
Well stated...

I'm a relative newcomer here, and there are certainly others more knowledgable about the technical aspects of the game than I am. I'm just a huge Fins fan who has the misfortune (and at times, exhilaration!) of living in Bills country, where I take heat when I wear my Dolphins jacket in public as I proudly do. There are actually quite a few of us, I've noticed over years. Access to good info. on the team is nearly nonexistent in these parts, as you can imagine. I'm VERY excited by everything I'm hearing so far from the Trifecta. What they're doing is now is accident. They're all former NFC East guys, where smash-mouth football is a way of life with a long and honorable tradition. That's all they know and that's what they do. In all my yrs of following Miami going back to the early '80's, toughness on the O-line has always seemed to be a problem. That's why I love what I'm hearing and sensing. I did earlier predict 4-6 W's this yr and will stick to it, b/c they have too many weaknesses and ?? at WR, QB, and in the secondary. But if we have the patience to wait a year or two, my guess is these trolls who are frequent visitors now will be thrown off the bridge into the icy waters below, where they'll be too busy trying to stave off hypothermia to post here.

Oops, that should have been 'no accident' in my last post. When I referred earlier to a group of 'serious regulars whose opinions I respect' I specifically had in mind Reality, Ocala Howie, Observant Fan, Perspective, and a few others who consistently crank out good stuff. Mr. Bungle (from Hackensack, NJ) and Mike Jones are pretty good, too. I appreciate the compliments from Reality and Ocala Howie.

I don't see how JT would have much say in any trade scenario, if by that you mean ability to approve or veto. Remember, Jason and his agent were denied permission to shop themselves to potential suitors as they had wanted to do before and around the draft. I don't know for sure, but my impression is that NFL contracts are written differently than in the NBA and MLB, where superstars sometimes have no-trade or trade-with-approval clauses written in. Any intelligent team would want some assurance beforehand that Jason would report to camp if acquired but any direct contact b/w the inquiring club and the player I'm pretty sure would have to be approved by the team to whom he's under contract. The Fins and Parcells have the real leverage there, but of course Jason could refuse to report or retire. The Pack would be a better situation for JT than the Fins, but the shift from Farve to Rodgers creates enough unanswered questions that it wouldn't be ideal for him, especially given the offseason moves Minnesota has made in that division. Frankly, for all the talk, I don't see a trade to the Pack happening. I have wondered, though, why Jason doesn't just retire, then sign with a new team? Do the Fins continue to retain contractual rights if he unretires? Is that provision part of his existing contract?
I'm no lawyer, but I would assume (yes I know what happens when you do that) that if he retires, and then unretires before the 2 years are up, he still has to play for the Fins. I doubt he would retire and come back in 3 years!

Great stuff! glad to see another good poster! I was starting to wonder if I should stop coming to these posts for a while, as the material has been pretty lame (rogperu and his aliases...). But if you guys keep this up I'll have to stay!

Thanks for the kind words. Your reply to my question was helpful and makes a lot of sense, now that I think about it. Otherwise, any guy who became disgruntled midway through a contract could simply retire (e.g. the Chad Johnson situation) to get out and resume his career elsewhere and teams would essentially be held hostage to player whims.

Not much news right now, but please don't leave. You're one of the best and we need all the quality we can get. I'd be interested in your thoughts on my latest post concerning the ingredients of winning and the role of motivational psychology (a reply to Reality in the old 'Two Added to Honor Roll story) Can't wait for training camp to begin.

If I"m not mistaken...didn't that exact thing happen with Barry Sanders? He didn't want to play for the Lions, and they wouldn't trade him, so he retired? I remember the talk was about him un-retiring after his current contract was up...but that never happened!

I think you may be right about Sanders, but it's too long ago for me to remember well now. He definitely retired when he could still play at a very high level. At any rate, I don't see JT retiring. He'll eventually be in camp, though perhaps not a 'happy camper' but a little winning would go a long way toward making everyone forget this mess. The losing is getting to him and can you blame him? I want guys on this team who hate losing and don't want to get used to it. And BP is enough of a pragmatist that when the bullets begin flying, he'll want Taylor around. Has anyone considered the possibility that BP did this b/c he knows that an angry JT will have something to prove and he'll give peak performance just to show 'the old man upstairs'? After all, Parcells doesn't care if he's liked or not. And he's a master at psychology.

Incidentally, I agree that JT would not retire and then come back and play in 3 yrs., though (call me crazy) I think it's possible he could be persuaded to postpone those retirement plans if he saw a SB within reach a couple seasons from now.

Dolphins should just let J.T. go to a winning team for a chance at a ring. The phins have stuck in the past, they stink now, and they will stink in the future.
