I have been waiting so long for this! In Sept. when the students come back I will still be able to get a treadmill at In Motion!

How exciting! I am thrilled. Chico has given students very little to cheer about over the years. I am finally glad to see such an improvement. Maybe Sports teams and school spirit and pride can be next on the list of things to invest in. This is a great enhancement for all students. Good Job!

This is a good example of what is wrong in this state. They build a state of the art recreation building while kids have to share lockers, books etc in classrooms elsewhere, and the very school where this building is built, will have to have furloughs for its teachers due to lack of funds!

What a waste of money. Local gyms will suffer. We have enough outdoor recreation. Why are you on a treadmill when you could go for a hike or a bike ride. Do not spend our money unless it is essential. Most students would rather have the $175 a semester in their pockets at this time.

So local gyms will suffer? Maybe they wouldn’t suffer if their membership fees were not so high and facilities so dated.

Thomas quit complaining that the Gym is such a waste of money and that because of it Chico State may be forced to furlough professors! This Gym was paid for by the Student Body of Chico State not the State of California. Students voted to have their tuitions increased to have this facility built (mind you, the students who did vote for it have since graduated). It saddens me to see people like you so seriously misinformed and then babbling on as if you have any inkling of what is truly going on.

Students voted for this project and the $175 go towards paying the bond for its construction. You can do the same thing with just a little revision to that sacred cow called Prop 13, but wait thats hand off. The nerve of people to whine about K-12 when they don't want to pay.

FYI, the students voted to build and pay for this facility, it was not funded by state money.

American, the students have received an excellent education over the last few years, and some pretty good basketball, and baseball teams too.

Great.. I too am pleased that the College kids have a gym now. They wanted it and they got it. I paid for a one year membership to In Motion only to watch the membership fees soar this year. It was way too crowded with college kids. I like In Motion, but they will have to drop the membership prices now.

Thomas my Son, this facility will be paid for by the students. Did you not read the article? College students actually PAY to attend their higher education and will pay for the new gym.

Figure break-down:

16,000 students a semester, each required to pay $175 per semester =$2.8 million dollars a semester! Then you have 2 semesters a year =$5.6 million dollars PER YEAR. The students voted to have it built, now they will be paying for it. At this rate the students will have the facility paid off in 11.25 years! Much quicker than the everyday worker that will pay his/her house off in 30 or so years!

Its about time so pressure was put on the greedy local gyms! They will have to drop their membership fees quite a bit to make up for the loss in members!

Competetion is a good thing! Afterall, it's the American way.

Just to let you know, the grand opening ceremony is planned for 4-8 p.m. Aug. 27, not Aug. 17.

Daily Horoscope for November 12

Cancer

You'll be quite happy at home tonight, as the Moon transits your fourth house of home and family; however, your mate may want to go out on the town. You'll be torn between what you want to do and what your most significant other desires. Don't go out if you think you will be miserable; that will only start a fight. Be honest about the way you feel, and don't be hurt if you spend the evening alone this time.
