Wow,Hank Peters is still alive? Even at his advanced age he'd still be faster than McPhail.

Good write Pete. Gibbons must go.

"Dempsey and Peters" to honor '83? Wow, how underwhelming.

Rick Dempsey was the MVP of the '83 world series, who better to represent that effort?

Clearly, Fahey has outplayed Hernandez at short. Giving Hernandez the job to make him a confident incompetent --that is, totally delusional, like the sportswriter-- makes no sense at all.

have we thought about trading hernandez the catcher??? he may have
value with teams that are in the hunt.
if we are going young go young at all
positions...do not leave value on the
deck it we can improve the club for the future!

About a month after the end of the 1985 season, I sent a letter to then-Orioles general manager Hank Peters with a few suggestions to improve the team. Not only did he mail a response but he also SIGNED the letter in blue ink (no facsimile)! Now that's class! I still have the letter.

All Orioles fans owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Hank Peters. Under his stewardship, the O's continued to be perennial contenders, winning the A.L. pennant in 1979 and the World Series Championship four years later. Unfortunately, when the team finishes the 1986 season in last place for the first time, he was scapegoated & fired by Edward Bennett Williams, the single most destructive man in O's history.
