no pun intended??? lol You are exactly right, Mr. Vankerrebroeck would not have tolerated any of this!!! But what do we do now? Our school has been dragged down recently. We have to overcome this, and stand as one!!! We need some statutes, some consistency, some uniformity!!

I feel these three boys should be given the most punishment they have esp the one that rubbed himself into the victims face. That is sexual harrasment! Get these boys out of that school before they do something more! The school needs to quit sweeping everything under the rug like they always have. If you did good in sports or had the right name nothing ever happened to you no matter how bad it was. And for the person from Princeton comment it sounds like your of real intelligence, this was no joke and obviously you dont know the boys very well! Grow UP!

I can't believe that anyone would not think that this incident should be taken lightly. This is anything BUT a prank. This was disgusting, dirty, appauling act upon this student. They should both be charged with sexual assault. The two young men who are 18 assaulted a minor. To read that this happens all the time at this school is disturbing. This students self-esteem is tarnished for the rest of his life thanks to these two. I bet this is a proud moment for both parents. Not only is the life of this young man messed up now but the other 2 have this to live with also and will affect their future.

Well I guess that you must ahve been absent from their little party in the locker room that day, I am guessing that maybe you feel left out that you did not get to help abuse an inosent student, or may be you are just wishing that it would have been you instead, FUN!! I call it sick and I call you sick also. Maybe you should sign up for councling with your besties when they are court ordered to go.

I think the citizen from Annawan needs to understand that this isn't an isolated incident at that school. Pull your head out of the sand and understand you have a problem. For the person from Princeton thinking that they have to grow a pair and knows the the 3 and they are good. I think you also need to be checked. Any type of sexual abuse/assault, racial slurs are not to be happening. My head is out of the sand I know racial slurs do happen and sexual abuse/assault does happen. But I think as grown ups, we need to make sure those 3 be punished and taken out of the school system. School Boards need to start thinking of the children in schools, not their last names, parents that may be teachers or higher ups in the communities. This does not give their children a pass. If they can not teach their children the rights and wrongs, maybe other adults need to by punishing them and taking their rights away. Every child should be protected. Let me tell you I do not have a name and never was in a board but I sure would take this as high as it could go to make sure my children are safe.

I applaud the mother for pursuing justice. According to Illinois law: criminal sexual abuse “is an act of sexual conduct where the accused uses force or threat of force. Sexual conduct is defined as “any intentional or knowing touching or fondling by the victim or the accused, either directly or through clothing, of the sex organ, anus or breast of the victim or accused...(720 ILCS 5/12-15). The three kids perpetuating the act should be expelled and face criminal charges. I would also encourage the mother to pursue civil charges in court against the perpetrators and their parents. Our kids should be safe when on school grounds and I would encourage the Annawan School District to do the right thing and permanently remove these students from school to provide a safe learning environment for all students in the district.

VanKerrbroeck would have expelled them without even going to the school board, to bad the one after him was always worried about getting her own kids out of trouble, after they graduate she bails out, Hulick needs to finally make an example. If these were no name kids they would've been expelled 2 weeks ago, their wouldn't even have to be a special board meeting.

They shouldn't be punished that much. They are kids. It's mostly their parents fault and the principal's fault for not teaching them a lesson. At annawan they don't have school meeting in the gym saying what would happen if they did this. I'mve know them for a long time and I am friends with them. I'm not saying this to stick up for them because i'm friend with the victim too. I'm sure the vitim has done things liek that before, thats why he didn't tell anyone, because he has! I do theink they should have charges pressed against them. These men get good grades and do great in sports. I know people make mistakes in their lives. But they shouldn't have to live with a little prank they did in high school for the rest of their life. The victim's mom said it wasn't a prank, how would she know? she wasn't there.
don't start freaking out, they should have charges pressed against them, but its not the moms choice, the principal, or even a judge. IT should be the victim that gets to pick the charges because it happened to him.
By the looks of your spelling you should pay a little more attention in class. So since it's no big deal how did you feel when it happened to you? Did you LIKE it?

I agree on the civil charge, if the school does not take care of the issue maybe the parents will when someone gets in their pocket because of their kids stupid behavior. I'd love to be on the jury.

You have got to be kidding me "good kids" don't use sexual assult as a joke....and that is what this is this doesnt happen everywhere..in fact it happend last year in Burbonnias il and everyone was expelled, the two 18 olds were tried for jail time and the minors were placed in sexually deviant schools...also...all of them will have to register as sex offenders from here on out...this is not a "freaking joke"

who in their right mind gets together with a friend or two and says, "wow, let's get him ... you hold him and i'm going to put my nuts on his face" ???
i don't care if they are straight A students and nice kids, they obviously have a serious problem with any common sense.
and yes, it starts at home ... i have a feeling the parents are also lacking much needed common sense.

As a colored person myself I can say...C'mon people just because the kid is mixed doesn't mean it is a racial thing. It's terrible that they did that yes but They didn't single him out because of race.

This situation is sad for the young man who is the victim. Having to live through this is challenging enough let alone growing up -
This situation hopefully is an awakening for the parents of the alleged abusers - help is needed!
Most of all my concern is:
As a taxpayer into this school district and children who attend this school district the bigger question is - what precedent is the school board going to set with this situation for future generations? The same as they have done in the past instances?
The Superintendent works for the SCHOOL BOARD who WE elect to represent us as taxpayers. Legalities I understand are involved. The School Board would have been smarter to be proactive about this and instructed the Superintendent to send home a statement of the incident so we the taxpayers and parents were aware of what was happening from the school district instead of the media and all the gossip on the street!
Annawan has a wonderful school district it's unfortunate they have chosen not to show the town's values through their School Board and Superintendent integrity and leadership!
It says nothing in the district #226 handbook about a victim's participation in the proceedings. So if it is true he has to appear in front of the alleged perpetrators the victim will have to present his case not once but, twice!
Time for the parents of Annawan to stand up and demand action from their elected officials to give their direction to the Superintendent and not have the Superintendent instruct them!
Time for the alleged abusers parents to be a parent and make their children face the consequences for their choices in life - not rescue them!

So what happened to the notorious saying "innocent until proven guilty" does that not apply anymore or what? everyone is making accusations but no one has both sides of the story yet. if you do then so be it but for everyone else you all need to get the correct facts and quit making assumptions about those three boys. its pretty sad that just because he is bi-racial everyone thinks that he didnt go along with this joke, of course jump to conclusions right away. I thought that race wasnt an issue in the world anymore so what does it matter if he is black white purple or green?

V.K. would have had the parents in there that night, suspended them, investigated it and made a decision to expel. I always thought he was a hardass in school, and now I see why he was. He is not supposed to be your friend, like the lady there before him. I believe that these problems stem from the laid back-sit here and look pretty-cover everything up-protect my kids-wait until they graduate-then bail attitude is the cause of most of the issues the last few years. These kids have got away with way to much for way to long. Had V.K. been there still, we would still have a school filled with pride, honor and integrity. That is what I learned in my 13 years there from K-12.
I SAY LET'S BRING HIM BACK. WHAT DO YOU SAY? LET'S HAVE YOUR COMMENTS ON THAT!

Know the families of all involved. I know it must be torturing them all. Its a sad, sad event...is this the result of parenting? societal influence? did these kids learn what they lived? I don't know, I feel the parents are responsible & respectable on both sides. I know both sides want the best for their children. I know kids play stupid, irresponsible pranks that often gets pushed to the way side...so do you make an example of these kids? do you set a precedence? when is enough-enough? I know I would never want my children subjects of or witness to such an event...but, what are we teaching our kids...Society sets limited boundaries, making fun of such acts in movies and then we make these shows & movies an exceptable form of entertainment and allow our children (adult or not) to be witness to this? So who is at fault? It is not acceptable, then again, who is at fault? I'm torn.

It doesn't matter if he's black, white, purple or green. What matters is the assault. WQAD did not disclose his race, nor did the interview with him mother. It has to do with assault, that's it.
