As a manger I can Agree with Torre, number speak louder than words, if your numbers(stats) suck, you don't play, you work harder to get back what you had or else you get replaced, Baseball is a game of a lot of failure and it has to be MANAGED by somebody, and his bat got real quite at the wrong time! Love him as player but he was slumping hard and Ronnie came through offensivley and defensively , it's not a popularity contest it's baseball!

So True, this WHOLE article! Yes, I love Rolly Polly, but O-Dog was the best DEFENSIVE 2nd baseman in WHOLE playoffs! BAD decision by Torre and all I can hear is Sheffield's words, when he Torre treats Hispanic players differently than he treats Black players! Hmmm, I love Fucal, but he NEVER lost his leadoff spot during the season, but really didn't produce until the end at the plate!!

Blu Crew Kng, I hear you on "popularity", but Rolly Polly didn't turn a couple douple plays that O-dogg makes in his sleep during the playoffs and if his(Ronnie) bat was "soooo" hot, then move him to 3rd base since Blake couldn't hit a basketball at the end of the year! Still bad move by Torre

He would fit in perfectly with the Mets, but no matter where he goes he'll be missed by Dodger fans.

I'm an O-Dog fan. A great fielding second-baseman like him, even with a slumping bat, is superior to an average second baseman. It's Manny that didn't hit! He's the one who should have been benched. Belliard did deliver some timely hits. With the divorce inspiring budget cuts at Dodger stadium, the Dodgers payroll will probably shrink. So will their chances for success.

dodgers blew this one, and sadly im not surprised. they have shafted numerous players players in the past with bad treatment and so forth. Where could i start..... Hopefully we make a trade he for uggla or phillips and that would really solidify 2b for a while. Its wrong that a great talent, teamate, and spokesman of the game, got kicked to the curb while other players struggled as well.

Sheff is an idiot..he has no legitimacy to what he said about race playing a factor....with the team the dodgers were fielding, offense was more inmportant than defense..Rolly did ok at second and produced...Hudson only won based on notoriety....Also, you cant take Furcal out of the lineup...absolutely not, the Dodgers live and die based on how Furcal plays plus he is solid at Short...haters
|
||||
|
Furcal is a great player, but he's getting too old. The Dodgers need a new shortstop. One Furcal can mentor as a master of the position.

Coltn native - I know what you are saying, but that same statement applies to O-dogg too! A switch hitter who batted in the 3 whole and hit WELL over .300 during a span that WE NEEDED bats! How is that "notoriety"? He batted 2nd when Manny was in the line up and did awesome. He went through a bad period(May or June) and got moved to 8th, while FUCAL batted Well under .250 the whole season, but only moved to 2nd when Juan was hot? That's all I'm saying. Fucal is still the best defensive shortstop in the NL to me(Rollins to most, but I'm biased)JUST like O-dogg is the best Defensive 2nd baseman(and he's a "switch" hitter too), so why do it to the one of the ones who CARRIED when we "needed" him? I'm no where close to a Hater, just real playboy!

That ole dog was good for the dodgers this season...good attitude...plays hard...likes to play...over all...
a really good ole dog... if he goes somewhere else ... thanks ole dog ...color has nothing to do with it. |

"Manny Ramirez was never the same player after returning from suspension, yet he was in the lineup every day. Russell Martin struggled for most of the season, Casey Blake wasn't nearly as effective in the second half compared with the first half. Both kept their jobs. "
This isn't really fair. There was no one behind these 3 guys who would produce better. Fact is, Belliard was producing and Hudson wasn't. If Torre had other options behind Ramirez, Martin and Blake, I'm sure he would have played those alternatives as well. |

Phil, O-dogg produced more than Blake, so why not move Belliard to 3rd? That's where he was playing before he came to the dodgers, cause his lack of range was a liability at Cleveland. He play most of his games at 1st and 3rd last year in Cleveland! And yes it showed on NUMEROUS plays at 2nd in the Playoffs! O-dogg just won ANOTHER gold glove?

Hudson, in his first home game of the season, hit for the cycle. It was the first time a player has hit for the cycle at Dodger Stadium. When he got his triple to complete the cycle, he didn't even know what he accomplished. A player like that deserves to be respected and put above all the players as an example of what the team is all about. I hope Hudson leaves the Dodgers and goes where he can get what he deserves. As for Manny Ramirez, Dodger fans are biting the $20 million bullet from his contract option, and we get to see the antithesis of Orlando Hudson for next season.

Hudson got almost $8 million from the Dodgers and he was great for the first two months, hitting .332. But from June 1st on, he hit only .253 with 6 HRs, 19 2Bs, and 31 RBI's in 340 official ABs. You can't deny that he wan't even close to the same player the Dodgers had the first two months. Someone mentioned Blake struggling, and he did inthe postseason, but he hit .362 in September and October of the regular season. Hudson hit .227 during the same period, and this is the time the Dodgers got Belliard and he hit .356. So why would they sit Blake in favor of Hudson? |

See my post again: Someone (you) mentioned Blake struggling, and he did in the postseason, but he hit .362 in September and October of the regular season. Hudson hit .227 during the same period, and this is the time the Dodgers got Belliard and he hit .356. So why would they sit Blake in favor of Hudson? |

Hudson has a gold glove. A strong defense up-the-middle is very important in baseball. But it seems great teams can get by with having a great shortstop these days. But if you believe in playing by the numbers then the Dodgers would have been better off without Manny. I hope Furcal can remain healthy and productive next season. He's a really fun player to watch.

Cry me a river... The guy was paid millions, wasn't he?

Judged:
1 crappy team, crappy fans & crappy owners |

Ironically, both Belliard & Hudson are gone like Jaime
But, U just bring in Blake DeWitt at 2nd, and Joe T can spin him W/ another they p/u late 2010 |

I had been thinking that forever. Glad somebody finally stepped up and said it!
