I buy two whole chickens and manage to get three meals out of it. I roast them for the first meal, tear up the leftover chicken for creamed chicken over biscuits/rice or chicken salad sandwiches for the second meal and then boil the carcus for soup stock. You can buy chicken cheap at save-a-lot or watch for the BOGO at Acme or Giant Eagle.

I go to my local beauty supply store and buy their" 8 to 1" shampoo. It is quality concentrated shampoo, that costs about $6 for the gallon, and it makes up to 8 gallons when diluted with water. I dilute it to make 6 gallons, and when it is on sale, I buy it for even less! It is pH-balanced, and is great as a body scrub, and you can buy conditioner the same way. It's available in several flavors. Also, when I put the shampoo on my hair the secord time while shampooing, I mix my conditioner in with the shampoo. This way, I save the water of an extra rinse.

Got just a little rice leftover after last night's dinner? Make stuffed peppers with last night's leftover rice or orzo using your favorite stuffed pepper recipe. Also, I use hot salsa instead of diced tomatoes for my chili recipes. I especially like Silver Palate's Tequila Salsa for my favorite recipe. It saves having to add hot sauce and seasoning, and a can of tomatoes. Salsa can be used in a stuffed pepper recipe, with leftover spanish rice and grated pepper jack cheese on top.

Plant a garden this Spring---May 15 is the date to aim for--stagger your planting in order to prolong the garden's usefulness...get some fruit trees--they'll start producing fruit the second or third year after planting; nothing like eating a peach or apple straight from the tree--I never worry about pesticides or herbacides or fungicides---I don't use them---I don't mind spots on my apples, besides, I'd rather eat a bug than a chemical, for sure! Check out websites for edible weeds from your yard---amazing what things you can use that you are conditioned to think are useless!

Great way to get the kids into eating healthy is to plant sugar snap peas---they grow fast and continue to produce most of the summer---the kids will pick them right off the vine---sweeter than candy!!! Ans healthy, full of fiber , too!!

To make an inexpensive window, kitchen, bathroom cleaner - just add a drop of Dawn dish soap to a spray bottle - fill it with warm water. When cleaning windows use a small handtowel or washcloth - no streaks or lint. Saves cash.

Plan your errands and make all stops a more direct run instead of running back and forth. Also, not going anywhere on the weekends and finding things to do at home have helped.

With leftover vegetables, freeze them all together and puree in a food processor next time you make soup stock. The flavor is delicious,it thickens the stock and allows you to use less meat in the recipe.

I prepare more casseroles, spaghetti, lasagna, etc. to stretch throughout the week now. I can get at least three to four servings a week from these foods. I use my crockpot more also!

I buy groceries when they have a sale! Just can't buy outright!

One of the best ways to save money grocery shopping is to use the FSI coupons in the Sunday paper. They are almost always timed to be out when the products are on SALE at your local grocers. and stay away from the impulse items (candy, magazines, ect) and dont forget to check the grocers web page for special deals also!

Stock up on pastas and cream soups. Add meats and veggies to make casseroles. Chicken leftovers with broccoli or green beans, make a good dinner. Rotate your cupboards as the sales come around.

Go to the day-old bread store. You will save so much money--and the local Entertainment Book also has coupons you can use there.

I know that carbs (e. g. breads, pastas, noodles, etc.) tend to be cheaper than proteins such as chicken, beef, and, as of late, eggs, but don't forget that you can get some protein via beans/legumes, nuts, peanut butter, milk, cheese, yogurt, tuna, etc.
