Of course he is, who else come close. I put Kobe B. in the class of Jordan, and just a shade shy of Big O (Oscar Robertson). All three of them want the ball when the game is on the line, because they know what it take to win, and make so so players around them seem like stars. Out of the three, Oscar was smooth with his game which the other two can't touch his smooth-ness.

No, he is certainly on the top ten list of "most narcissistic". I much prefer Durant or Parsons who can score while also making their team better as well. Durant deserved that MVP. Even with his high scoring, he still looks to other teammates to help. Basketball is a TEAM sport and Kobe is not a team player.

With out a doubt, not only is he going to be in the top 3 all time scoring, but we forget what a lock down defender he was in his prime.
He was 1st team all defensive team 9 years in a row, and always guarded the other teams best player and point guards. He has 5 titles.
To put Parsons or Durant in his company is foolish

The question:is Kobe the best of the era is not a question of off the court character. Nor is Durant or Parsons in the discussion.

The players of his era are Vince Carter, Dirk, KG, Shaquille, Duncan, Paul Pierce,Ray Allen, Iverson, Kidd, McGrady, joe Johnson, Steve Nash, Gasol. Also, Steph 'Marbury and Kerry Kittles who were both drafted ahead of Kobe in 96.

All the players who came in around the late 90's.

Kobe performed bigger and more often than any of them. He played in more playoff games scored more points and entertained more spectators than all of them.

Look at mid season weekday games in Milwaukee or Charlotte that would normally have empty seats. When kobe and the lakers came to town he would sell out other teams stadiums. Hearing MVP chants in opposing arenas...? Who else pulls that off?

Look at points per game. Kobe's scored 30 points or more in over 100 play off games. Look at 50 point games all time, only Jordan outpaces him.

Critics and we all are, are so quick to judge without looking at any statistics. Kobe has averaged over 5 assists for much of his career and lead his team in points assists and steals for most of his seasons.

He reviatalized the Olympic team and lead the way for LeBron and Melo and D-wade in intensity and dedication.

I witnessed this first hand in Las Vegas when the new Team USA was coming together 8 years ago before the Olympics. The Blue Vs White game played at Thomas and Mack had the best American NBA players competing to be team USA. At the end the game was tight and the packed house watched as a young LeBron hit a lay up to tie it with 16 seconds left.

Then with the best of the best out on the court the whole place chanted Kobe.....Kobe........ Kobe......Kobe.....

Kobe went down and knocked down an elbow jumper vs LeBron to go ahead. LeBron had one last desperation shot. Kobe blocked the shot.

He was must see TV for 18 years on 100 nights a year. That not only crushes the other players of his era, but Seinfeld, Friends, ER, and Jack Bauer too.

Kobe has been discredited, disrespected and under appreciated for almost his whole career. America is under the delusion that we like underdogs better than dominant winners who give no quarter.

Next time you are thinking of elevating and underdog to the status of all time great ask yourself this. Do you want an underdog when it's time for a back surgery or do you want a tactical arrogant motivated surgeon who gets it done right every time thru the pursuit of excellence....

Kobe is the best of his era and basketball fans are the beneficiaries of....

How could Kobe rank BELOW Oscar Robertson? How many rings does the Big O have? Winning championships is the biggest honor one could have in team sports, The Big O failed miserably and falls well short of 5 and 6 by Kobe and MJ

Tim Duncan is certainly an all time great and probably right behind kobe in regards to the era.

One major difference with the two is playing in San Anotonio vs Los Angeles.

Kobe did it under brighter lights and more scrutiny. Duncan could get away with turning in 13 and 7 game. Kobe would be ripped for 3 days for not showing up.

Everything is magnified in LA, which reinforces Kobe's accomplishments.

Another major difference is that Duncan is not the main go to on his team. He has differed to better offensive players for much of his career.

How many times has Duncan gone for 40 in a game?

Duncan's skill set is more rounded. He is a great defender and consistent rebounder. And I like anyone who pisses Joey Crawford off.

However this can NOT be discounted. The single more important aspect in basketball is scoring buckets. Whether it's a pick up game or the finals. Someone has to score. If the spurs relied on Duncan for that they would have one maybe two championships.

And to say that Kobe was on loaded teams and give Duncan a pass on that point is LOL.

Kobe leads from the front where as Duncan has your back if you need him....

In a one on one game would scorch Duncan like a San Antonio summer...
