In the 1st paragraph, the article states, "Ten months after the beloved Michael J. Tully Park pool was closed because of a faulty filtration system, the Town of North Hempstead has hired contractors to overhaul the New Hyde Park facility."

Michael J. Tully Park pool is in North New Hyde Park ("New Hyde Park, NY 11040" mailing address).

In other words, if you want to send a letter to the Michael J. Tully Park pool, you would address this letter to "New Hyde Park, NY 11040"; however, if you want to actually go to the Michael J. Tully Park pool, you would go to North New Hyde Park.

It is important to understand that North New Hyde Park is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address.

For those who may not be familiar with North New Hyde Park:

North New Hyde Park is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the southwest section of the Town of North Hempstead, in the west part of Nassau County along the Nassau County/NYC border and along the Town of North Hempstead/Town of Hempstead border.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of North New Hyde Park in the Town of North Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Village of Lake Success and the Hamlet of Manhasset Hills; on the east by the Hamlet of Garden City Park; on the south by the Village of Garden City, Town of Hempstead (the North Hempstead/Hempstead Town line), the Village of New Hyde Park and the Village of Floral Park; and, on the west by New York City (the Nassau County/NYC line).

North New Hyde Park is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of North New Hyde Park have a "New Hyde Park, NY 11040" mailing address, with a small area having a "Floral Park, NY 11001" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns:

It is a shame that the diving area is being eliminated. In my youth I spent many warm summer hours on the diving boards at my community pool. I wasn't the only one, the lines on each of the three boards would often stretch 15 to 20 kids long. Diving was a great attraction and watched by everyone at the pool. So why would anyone eliminate it? The truth is that the fear of lawsuits from "diving" accidents is driving this decision. Reality is that catastrophic accidents at properly designed and supervised diving facilities are rare, far fewer than occurs in other organized sports like football. If this comes as a shock I suggest you actually do a little research. Most "diving" injuries have nothing to do with the sport of diving or diving boards. By far, most "diving" injuries occur in shallow back yard pools and a large percentage are related to alcohol consumption. Once again, look it up! The trouble is, all of these are lumped together, called diving accidents and uninformed town officials start to panic. A diving area is an integral part of a community pool and will be missed if absent. As far as the waterslides and other aquatic play installations, they can certainly be an asset to the pool but I have never heard of watersliding as an olympic event, have you?

It is time for an update on the Tully Pool.
I recall that before the '09 Supervisor Election that we would be swimming in early '10.....Was this another empty campaign promise???????
What will Money Magazine say now?
It has been almost two years without a town pool.
Give us some good news!!!!!

When is pool reopening??? I am a swimmer and enjoy this sport. It is such an inconvenience without a community pool. I did sign up at other pools , spend more money because of out of resident area. ITS NOT THE SAME. My concern is if there is any news about reopening of this pool, Please post it.
i don't want to go thru hassels and spend extra money going to other pools.

Thanks

I have been checking up on the progress on the pool and exercise facility. Apparently the contractors were projecting a July completion. However according to some of the workers, that seems "unrealistic". Expect major delays.
