No matter what the swim club says, they didn't want no white kids there in such numbers, and maybe non at all..Now with that said of course they are racist.

But this isn't really about them, we know who they are and what they stand for. For me the question is about the black and "latinos" who wanted those kids to go to that pool. Why?

Why do we always want to be around white folks in a social setting? Why do we want to share what they have in their communities instaed of having our own?

IMO, this is a part of why we don't have our own, we so busy tryin to be and trying to get whites approval instead of working with, loving and supporting our own. We must really think they are jesus or even god.

and saw three stereotypes broken

1. Black men don't wear sandals.
I saw many Black men at the swim meet going barefoot and/or wearing sandals without hiding their feet in white socks. They were in the audience as well as getting ready to dive into the pool.

2. Blacks don't swim.
There were several hundred Blacks ranging from age 4 to 18, and they were from all over (NJ,IL,MD,MA,NC,etc.). Olympic swimmer Cullen Jones was there as well.

3. Black females hate water.
There were meets for female swimmers, and half of the Black swimmers were female. They weren't afraid to go in the water.

Please look at the photo gallery in the link above. BTW, the Black swim teams had names like the Newark Piranhas, Chicago South Swim Club, New Jersey Stingrays, Fayetteville Flying Fish, Boston's Elite Swim Team(BEST), etc.

There is a book out now (I can't remember the title though;) where it's about racism in public swimming pools in the USA!!!! Years ago many of the towns would have rules banning African-Americans from their pools because of reasons from "poor hygene" to the fact that the bigoted big shots DID NOT want any black males near white women especially in a public swimming pool. Many years ago, the Disney Channel (before it became Jona$ Brother$ & Miley Cyru$ land...) did a tv-movie about racism in the South and part of the storyline was where blacks were barred from the town's swimming pool; the title was called "Perfect Harmony".

A lawsuit has been filed against the Valley Swim Club in federal court

On Friday, the Associated Press reported that officials with the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission said they would immediately open an investigation into the actions of The Valley Club in the leafy suburb of Huntingdon Valley.

"The rule of law in Pennsylvania is equal opportunity for all, regardless of race," , chairman Stephen A. Glassman said Thursday in a written statement released by his office.

"Allegedly, this group was denied the use of a pool based on their race," Glassman said. "If the allegations prove to be true, this is illegal discrimination in Pennsylvania."

The club maintains that accusations of racial discrimination are false and claims overcrowding from more than one outside camp was the problem.

The sad thing here is that a small business owner and his wife have been tried, convicted and executed in the press.

From seeing all the interviews it's obvious that the President of the swim club did this(cancelled the contract) because his PAYING members complained about the overcrowding.

He overstepped his authority (out of the goodness of his heart) by inviting 3 separate camps to send their kids to swim at bargain prices:

60 kids @$1900 =$30 per kid to swim once a week for 8 weeks!!!!!

Normally you pay this much for a day where I live.

I guess he'll remember his lesson to not try to be nice to poor kids because their leaders will
run to the press and destroy your reputation if they even perceive to have been wronged.

Nuff said.

B.S. they are racist, but they should have the right to allow who they want in their pool if it's a private club. I think the lawsuit is a way of forcing integration because segregation will promote competition and may lead to black freedom ..and white folks don't want that no how, no way..they want us dependent and close..

You have point.
They won't get sued if the swimming pool is private owned. Inner city Philly should build a swimming pool where blacks and latinos can feel comfortable. I want people get along, but if it got be like this where they literally think darker skin will effect the pool, then so be it.
