Someone should hire a consultant to do a report on how accurate the outcomes predicted by other consultants have been :-).

ALBATROSS - and a waste of taxmoney. P.S. If you take Lauderhill's amazing advice and lower the fees, you'll attract a lower class event and end up paying double to repair the damage to the turf and facility. This is a joke.

Cricket?? 70 MILLION DOLLARS?? Can I ask where ARE THEIR PRIORITIES??? Our college classes are being cut --- School lunches are being down sized -- Pensions are being sqaundered by goverment -- Scores of people are being layed off - loosing thier homes - and I wont go into the Medical issues that exist and the-- AND THE ONLY THING THEY CAN COME UP WITH IS SPEND 70 MILLION DOLLARD AND BUILD A STADIUM TO PLAY CRICKET? And we sometimes ponder on why the world is where it is at today.....

More proof that we need to keep starving the government beast until this kind of spending STOPS!
Three numbers in the story say it all. The county wasted over $70 million building this park!
We're wasting another $2.2 million annually to keep it open! The 5000 seat stadium once had 1000 people in it. WOW!

This should have been the site for the new Marlin's stadium. What a waste - cricket? who cares? Australian rules football? who cares?(who knew there was such a thing?)
Well just as an FYI there other sports besides Football, baseball, basketball, and Soccer.
Cricket is one of the most popular sports in the world, and baseball is a direct derivative of it. Aussie Rules Football is the oldest organized football in the world with their "super bowl" averaging about 110,000 people about 30-40K more then then the NFL's.

So Just because you guys don't play or watch these sports doesn't mean that hundreds or thousands of others don't. Why don't you stop whining and go out and see what these sports are all about the local Cricket, Rugby, and Aussie Rules Clubs would love to have you out to try something new.

I frequent the park and I am a resident of coral springs. I see kids leagues, adult leagues, football, rugby, Aussie Rules, and cricket all the time. It's not Cricket only there are all types of youth leagues including American football, and soccer going on every day there. I think the article is focusing on the main stadium and not the day to day of the park. The water park there is amazing, easily the best in Broward County.

I am always in favor of new and more parks. Too bad our elected officials and city planners always find a way to spend 3 or 4 times what they need to to build or upgrade a park. Cronyism, pure and simple. Another example of blatant government incompetance and waste: the Arts Park in Hollywood. The city and county spent $25 MILLION for about $3 MILLION worth of upgrades. Truly shameful but at least the commissioners and the city manager got their share of the wasted millions.

I grew up in the Broward and I like to check in on the local news daily.

I will say what a brilliant plan build a cricket stadium/soccer stadium in a country that could care less about either sport!!!

Seems like it was built for a select few at the cost of many, I don't see many residents from out out west going to the park with their family in the middle of the damn GHETTO, I can assure you I won't!!!!

Yeah! Where have you people been??!!! Cricket is the fastest growing sport in the country!! Every high school and major university has cricket teams and the networks are competing for primary TV coverage of the new US Cricket League!! Ticket sales are booming and there will be TV coverage of 3 to 4 major games every Sunday!! Traffic is already starting to back up with people trying to get to games. It's easy to see that cricket will soon overtake football, baseball, basketball, and hockey in overall ticket sales. I've got to go now so I can get in line to buy season tickets!!

What a waste of money... Now the County wants to cut services for police and fire so they can pay for the park... I would love to see who built the park and which commissioner got a kick back..

800K visitors a year? That's 2k+ a day...
A $1 million scoreboard and total $900 annual revenues...

Things aren't adding up here...

Problem is that our county commission looks upon everything it does as a profit center instead of providing real services to the people. Example -- how about $8.00 an hour to park in the Court House parking garage? That's $64 for an 8 hour day, twice what you would pay in Manhattan. IThey did that because they GAVE the top two floors of the garage to the developer of the condo -- on county owned land -- next door.

Sounds like their Next Great Idea is to have every park look like a Broward County Transit bus, with ads for whoever will pay the most money, how about topless bars.

Vote the whole bunch out.
