NFL NO future wrote:
Lem Barney, 67, who was recently diagnosed with as many as eight concussions from his playing days, says the NFL is more violent than ever & "can only get worse"
A Hall of Famer believes that the game of football will disappear in the next couple decades because of concern over brain injuries.
Lem Barney, who played cornerback and was a return specialist for the Detroit Lions from 1967-77, made his bold statements Friday during the Sound Mind Sound Body camp in Southfield, Mich.
Some of his comments came while participating on a panel with Michigan coach Brady Hoke and Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio. Barney later elaborated on his beliefs to a group of reporters who were present.
The game is becoming more deadly today, Barney said.I can see in the next 10, maybe 20 years, society will alleviate football all together, because of how big its becoming and the tenacity it already is. It can only get worse.
Barney, 67, said that football was a joy for me during his career. He recalled how his dream as a kid was to play in the NFL.
But things have changed.
Barney was recently diagnosed with as many as eight concussions from his playing days.
And he knows its only more dangerous now.
Its very violent today, Barney said. The game has gotten stronger, faster, bigger and in a lot of cases, more intelligent. When you look at collisions today, when an immovable object is hit by an immovable force, something has to give, and normally its a body part.
Barney said he wouldnt play the game if he had to do it all over again
Yahoo sports.
What would he do now?...play Barney Rubble on the Flintrocks!

Thanks Coach! My Bruins have been extremely surprised to be where we are, being that we average as a team about .250 average :/

While I still think we will not go much further and will end yet another season on a losing note, I still anticipate having to wait until my football Bruins open the season against lowly Nevada to finally get a win again :/

I guess you are in the same boat, but you may have to wait until game 2 or 3 against UAB or Kent St ;)

Go Bruins, Go Tigers! We are looking for winning streaks again!

Great point Miss Wolfie :)

Too bad we Bruins can't get Lifer to act that way or those Trojans can't get Chiquita Traveler to do the same :/

Go Bruins, we play fair!

UCLA - where where you are a STUDENT first and an athlete second.
USC - where you are an ATHLETE first, and student second.

I believe I've usually credited you with posting 90% crap. I don't have time to read the link right now. But if you're correct about us not having the right priorities, this may be one of the other 10%. I believe it should be in that order...student first, athlete second.

If we failed in that regard, we deserve the heat.

Lifer please don't get into another one of those angry tantrum, witty humor, angrier tantrum, less witty humor binges again :/

We have heard this argument before. You know they will just come back at us Bruins with:

UCLA - where you are a STUDENT first and an athlete second and unfortunately it shows on the field.
USC - where you are an ATHLETE first, and student second, where you win championships and you also produce a six figure salary human being.

Go Bruins! Let's come up with something those Trojans can't actually counter with, shall we!

Thanks ADM! We are somehow doing it with our pitching and defense! But the bats have to come alive sooner or later if we stand any chance!

A lot of good teams in the brackets!!!

Go Bruins!!!
