I just learned of the fire on my family's private forum. I live in France, so it's awful not to know if my sister and her husband and their 5 cats are safe! And their beautiful home on Bonny Doon Drive!! We need updates please!

from Seattle: those of us who have friends in Bonny Doon find it very hard to determine the extent and direction of the fire. This makes it hard for us to know who to worry about. Please include a map and wind direction with stories.

It took a few days for more accurate maps to be placed on websites for our last fire in Santa Cruz County, the Summit Fire. I was up in Bonny Doon until 9 pm. last night, and could share with you at least the southern extent of the fire, and maybe some other news. The fire was at around 550 acres at 9 pm, and had raged mostly through the Martin Road Ecological Reserve (ie., Moon Rocks) and surrounding houses. And so, those folks near the old Bonny Doon tasting room, Ice Cream Grade, north side of Smith Grade, and west side of Empire Grade, between Bonny Wood Way and Ice Cream Grade were in especial danger. For the fire to move south and/or west, it needs to cross some major, moist and steep canyons....possible, but unlikely given the lack of extreme winds; that might change today. Look on line for areas evacuated. For more specific details you can email me if you like through (make this one word and add the appropriate at sign...need to disquise this for spam reasons...coastal prairie 'at' aol dot com.

Doesn't the press realize that when fire fioghters are busy saving them other duties saving residents pets or homes may be wanting?
Keep the press outside the fire lines and let our fire fighters do their superb difficult dangerous work without worrying about amateurs in their midst!

First, thank you, one and all, and especially the firefighters who are working so hard in these conditions to keep this fire at bay ...

Can anyone tell if this fire jumped Ice Cream Grade at Martin Rd ...I have friends on StarLite Mountian Rd that is at the junction of those two roads.

I'm assuming they were evacuated but can't tell if that area has burned or not.

Thank you for any info.

Bonny Doon Elementary is right there at the corner of Ice Cream Grade and Pine Flat, is the school in danger?I am surprised no one has reported about that. I send my very best to all of you people in the fire lines that you stay safe and your homes are saved. Thank you firefighters for the hard work you men and women do.

We were evacuated and the fire is about a mile from my house now. We attended the fire crew briefings this morning and it hadn't jumped Ice Cream Grade yet. We were all evacuated from the area so hopefully your friends are safe. Supposedly only one structure has burned so far but I don't know if it was a house or outbuilding. It was a relief to see how many firefighters are up there.

This is pretty scary.

The fire is moving away (to the south)and the wind is forecast to keep in that direction.
